THE COMPANY HE KEEPS

William Mehlman

The opacity of the Obama administration’s professed dedication to the safety and security of Israel becomes more pronounced with each passing week.

Former U.S. ambassador Charles Freeman’s aborted appointment to the chairmanship of the president’s National Intelligence Council is history, but its reverberations refuse to subside. By now we all know why this appointment was aborted. The question that won’t go away is why it was ever made.

Given Freeman’s stellar performances riding shotgun for the Saudis and the Communist Chinese, even as the “goddess of democracy” was being systematically assaulted by their regimes, by what stretch of whose imagination was the ambassador deemed fit to be sifting national intelligence data, much less presiding over the process? “Don’t ask us,” could serve as a summation of the response of the President and his inner circle, their collective arms extended full length.

Wilders’s acceptance speech for the Freedom Award

“The take-over of Europe is part of the global fight of Islam for world domination”

Here is Geert Wilders’s acceptance speech for the Freedom Award he was given by the Florida Security Council in Miami on April 27:

Thank you very much. Thank you for inviting me and thank you US border police for allowing me to enter this country. These are dramatic times. Europe might be very well on its way to destruction. We are now witnessing the largest influx in human history. This is endangering our heritage, our freedom, our prosperity and our culture. I wish I had come to a place they call the sunshine state with better news, but it would be unwise to deny the situation is gloomy. It might take a while to have you understand the situation we are in now.

Muslim Gang Tortured Halimi to Death

Ilani Halimi Trial Begins Today:

By Debbie Schlussel

ilanhalimiheadshotToday, the trial of the Muslim killers of Ilan Halimi began. Unfortunately, the trial is closed because two of the TWENTY-SEVEN barbarian Muslims (redundant) who murdered him are minors.

Three years ago, I told you the story of how Halimi, of blessed memory, was kidnapped by a Muslim gang of 27 in France, after luring him with an attractive woman. The Muslims, headed by Youssouf Fofana, held Halimi captive for 24 days, while they tortured him and called his parents who heard his screams in the background, while his torturers shouted anti-Semitic slurs. For 24 days, the Muslims burned Ilan Halimi with cigarettes and an iron, beat him, cut off his fingers, and otherwise brutally tortured him. His “crime”: He was a Jew.

Throughout, Muslim neighbors in the building heard his screams and cries from torture. And they did nothing. In the end, the Muslims dumped his mostly lifeless, cut-up, burned body (80% of it was covered in burns) on railroad tracks, and he died shortly thereafter. He was only 23.

From the coverage of today’s first day of trial:

The leader of the “barbarians,” Youssouf Fofana, smirked at Halimi’s relatives and shouted “Allahu akbar!” (“God is Greatest!” in Arabic) [DS: Um, it actually means "allah is the greater" or "the greatest," meaning greater than your or my G-d] at them as he entered the courtroom.

Bearded and wearing a white tracksuit, Fofana gave his identity during formal questioning by the judge as “Arabs African revolt barbarian salafist army.”

THE OBAMA DOCTRINE

By RALPH PETERS

AFTER a mere 100 days, the “Obama Doctrine” for our foreign and security policies has emerged. And it’s terrifying.

The combination of dizzying naivete, dislike of our allies, disdain for our military, distrust of our intelligence services and distaste for our own country promises the worst foreign policy of our lifetimes.

That includes President Jimmy Carter’s abysmal record of failure.

The core tenets of the Obama Doctrine to date would make a charter member of the Weather Underground cheer:

We’re to blame. If there are problems anywhere, they’re America’s fault. This central conviction of leftist ideology appears to have soaked so thoroughly into our president’s consciousness during his lengthy friendships with extremists that it’s now second nature to him.

Russia and Islam are not Separate: Why Russia backs Al-Qaeda

By Konstantin Preobrazhensky

Americans generally believe that Russia is afraid of Islamic terrorism as much as the U.S.A. They are reminded of the war in Chechnya, the hostage crisis at the Beslan School in 2004 and at the Moscow Theater in 2002, and of the apartment house blasts in Moscow in 1999, where over 200 people were killed. It is clear that Russians are also targets of terrorism today.

But in all these events, the participation of the FSB, Federal Security Service, inheritor to the KGB, is also clear. Their involvement in the Moscow blasts has been proven by lawyer Mikhail Trepashkin, a former FSB Colonel. For this he was illegally imprisoned, and is now suffering torture and deprivation of medical assistance, from which he is not likely to survive.

Russian intellectuals to Lieberman: “No to Palestinian state”

Lieberman’s office in rapid response: The letter will be taken into account

Several Russian immigrant intellectuals sent an urgent letter to Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Israel’s Independence Day, urging him “to do everything possible to prevent establishment of a Palestinian state in Judea and Samaria”. An aide at the Foreign Minister’s office called initiator Prof. Nina Fogel, a Technion retiree residing in Haifa the next morning, thanked the signatories and assured Prof. Fogel that Minister Liberman would be discussing the contents of the letter with his staff “very promptly”.

The Real Tragedy in Israel

By Ted Belman

PA ambassador: Our weapon is int’l law caught my attention because the Ambassidor proceeds on the basis that the Geneva Convention applies to Judea and Samaria and therefore, the occupation is illegal. Its worth reading what he has to say. But even if it does apply, the settlements are legal.

It reminded me of my destruction of his arguments in The Real Tragedy in Israel which I wrote two years ago.

Unfortunately, a Growing Majority of Americans Oppose Israel Building Settlements

A narrative has emerged that Israel’s settlements in the West Bank are a “tragedy.” The fatal flaw lies in the original sin of supposedly lawless occupation of land, in contravention of the Geneva Convention. It makes a strong emotional pitch to a sense of justice, a major influence on the thinking of many American Jews. But the narrative is built on a flawed foundation.

For example, Gershom Gorenberg in his Op-Ed in the New York Times, “Israel’s Tragedy Foretold,” on March 10, 2006, opines that Israelis and their leaders have finally seen the light, namely that Israel should abandon the settlements.

In so concluding, Mr. Gorenberg puts his faith in an opinion by Legal Counsel to the Israeli Foreign Ministry, one Theodor Merion who wrote in 1967

“My conclusion is that civilian settlement in the administered territories contravenes the explicit provisions of the Fourth Geneva Convention.”

‘I told you so!’ Obama’s a card carrying Muslim! You will see!

Arlene Peck, BrookesNews.Com

peckI love it when I have an opportunity to say: “I told you so,” and, never had I had that chance as I’m having with Barack Hussein Obama aka “Barry”. When I kept on saying that I didn’t want the man as my President all my Israeli and American Jewish friends accused me of being a ‘racist’. And when I replied that it wasn’t a black thing, they gave me this disbelieving look. What I told my friends it was and still is, is the Muslim (in him) thing. Of course that went over like a lead balloon and during that time, I think I even lost some of friends. But I lost more friends when I told everyone who would listen that I didn’t give a diddly-squat if the ‘poor’ Palestinians never had a country to call their own that was carved out of the heart of the Land of Israel.

Abbas Doesn’t Recognize Israel, Renounce Violence or Keep Past Agreements Either

The Obama administration has embarked on a path some feel may lead to recognition of Hamas. True, Hamas remains on the official list of terrorist groups:

But the administration has asked Congress for minor changes in U.S. law that would permit aid to continue flowing to Palestinians in the unlikely event that Hamas-backed officials become part of a unified Palestinian government.

Now whenever there is any hint of recognition of Hamas, the response is that any recognition would require that Hamas acquiesce on the big 3:

U.S. officials insist the proposal does not mean they would be recognizing or aiding Hamas. Under law, any U.S. aid would require that the Palestinian government meet three long-standing criteria: recognizing Israel, renouncing violence and agreeing to follow past Israeli-Palestinian agreements.

The question is–does the US require the same from the PA? (Read more…)

Developing U.S./Iran Axis

By Ted Belman

Debka reports on two developments

Talks on Iranian corridor for US troops, supplies to Afghanistan on fast track

On March 27, DEBKA-Net-Weekly 390 revealed exclusively Barack Obama’s plans “to transform the Khomeinist Islamic Republic’s clenched fist against America into a helping hand by formally asking Tehran to permit the passage to Afghanistan of fresh US troops, weapons and supplies across Iranian territory.”

In its follow-up of April 3, our military sources reported that US defense secretary Robert Gates, Chief of Staff Adm. Mike Mullen and transport command chief Gen. Duncan J. McNabb, have laid before the president a detailed plan, which had been cleared in back-door meetings between US and Iranian officers.

The Auschwitz and Iran Bombing Controversies: Are There Parallels?

by Jerry Gordon, New English Review, May 2009

IAF F-16 returning from mission over Syria

IAF F-16 returning from mission over Syria

On September 9, 2003, a squadron of Israeli Air Force (IAF) F-15’s flew over Auschwitz in southern Poland directly from Israel. The squadron flew the ‘missing man’ formation symbolic of the Six Million European Jewish men, women and children murdered in unspeakable ways by the Nazi death camp machinery in the Final Solution, the Holocaust, or Shoah. An Agence France Presse report noted:

The F-15s, emblazoned with the Star of David, were piloted by the sons or grandsons of Holocaust victims who perished in Poland, according to the Israeli ambassador to Warsaw.

An Israeli air force statement said that as the jets flew low across the sky the pilot leading the squadron, General Amir Eshel, said: “We pilots of the air force, in the skies over these camps of shame, have risen from the ashes of millions of victims. We are the voice for their silent calls. We salute their heroism and promise to be the shield of the Israeli homeland.”

The flyover of Auschwitz by the IAF was objected to by the Auschwitz Birkenau Museum as inappropriate to venerate the 1.4 million Jews murdered at the death camp complex. It was nevertheless symbolic on several levels.

Today is Israel Memorial Day

From Steve Rubin

We remember all the fallen soldiers and murdered civilians over the last more than 60 years. There are no barbecues, no picnics, no restaurants and no movies. This is a day that all Israeli citizens, Jews, Druze and Beduin alike, mourn the loss of all their loved ones. Those of us who live in chutz la’Aretz share in their pain–Israelis and the entire American-Zionist community. It’s very difficult not being in Israel at this time.

The Missing Class: Jewish Contributions to Humanity.

By David Suissa, Jewish Journal

I have an idea that I think could really improve Jewish education. It’s so simple and obvious that I wasn’t going to write about it, since I figure everyone’s already thought of it. The idea came to me after a rabbi told me about his dream of broadcasting, on the Internet, a weekly class on Judaism designed for the huge number of Jewish kids who aren’t getting a Jewish education.

This got me thinking: If I had only one hour a week to encourage Jewish students to connect with their Judaism, what would I teach them? What Jewish subject would have the greatest chance to instill Jewish pride and make a student say, “Yeah, that’s something I want to be a part of?”

Fjordman: “Why We Need Germany”

Fjordman, Brussels Journal.com

I’m tired of people who are busy losing this world war because they are still obsessed with the previous one, which ended generations ago. Anti-Nazism has mutated into a permanent witch-hunt on an imaginary enemy. The notion that “neo-Nazis” constitute a prominent group today is nonsense. The most dangerous people by far are those running the European Union, who are busy dismantling European civilization and enlarging the borders of the EU to include the Middle East and North Africa, those flooding their own countries with tens of millions of Muslims and other hostile aliens without consulting the native population. This makes the EU the largest criminal entity on the planet, preoccupied with destroying an entire continent, dismantling the greatest civilization that has ever existed and replacing the native population with others. I have described this in my book Defeating Eurabia, which is available online.

Europe’s Right Turn

By Bruce Bawer, City Journal

When the New Left emerged in the 1960s, something else was born that would mark American elites for decades thereafter: the notion that social-democratic Western Europe was far superior to the capitalist United States. Pity the poor American professor whose every junket to a European academic conference was marred by his continental colleagues’ sneering over cocktails about his nation’s shame du jour—Vietnam, Watergate, Iraq—or about American racism, capital punishment, or health care. For much of the American Left, Western Europe was nothing less than an abstract symbol of progressive utopia.

This rosy view was never accurate, of course. Europe’s socialized health care was blighted by outrageous (and sometimes deadly) waiting lists and rationing, to name just one example. To name another: Timbro, a Swedish think tank, found in 2004 that Sweden was poorer than all but five U.S. states and Denmark poorer than all but nine. But in recent years, something has happened to complicate the Left’s fanciful picture even further: Western European voters’ widespread reaction against social democracy.

Canada leads the way

The Honourable Peter Kent, a friend of mine, wrote
Dear Ted,

Here’s a National Post op-ed by Pierre Poilievre about his recent trip to Poland and Geneva to participate in the March of the Living and the counter-Durban II conference, respectively, It is statements like this that make me proud to be a Conservative.

Pierre Poilievre: Canada vindicated at Durban II

We Canadians are often too polite to say, “I told you so.” But 16 months after we told the world that the Durban “anti-racism” conference was anything but, we have been vindicated. Canada was the first nation to pull out of the Durban II conference and to cut off funds for NGO participation. Countries like Italy, Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Israel and the United States of America followed us. Many other nations later walked out of the conference when Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad poured verbal acid all over Israel, the United States and Europe.
