Israel’s stark choice

By Ted Belman

In Cairo, Mitchell said

“We believe that a comprehensive Middle East peace is not only in the interest of the people of the Middle East, the Palestinians, and Israelis and Egyptians…but it is also in the national interest of the United States and people around the world,”

In other words, the conflict is a pain in the ass for the U.S. and the E.U. It prevents them from having better relations with the Arab world. So they are joining forces with them to force Israel to capitulate even if it is not in Israel’s national interest,

The stark choice for Israel is between an emaciated self and friendship with the US and EU or to stay strong and take on the world.

One is left to ponder what he meant by this.

“The president believes, and I believe, that a comprehensive peace in the Middle East will be possible only as a result of the leadership of Egypt, President Mubarak … and the whole [Egyptian] government,”

What does Obama expect of Egypt?

  1. Ted, just read about Rome’s treatment of Carthage at the hands of the Numidians. Only Israel can decide, whether or not they are a spent power like the Carthaginians.

  2. Ted: Those who criticize the concept of a two state solution offer precious little in the way of a practical alternative. An alternative plan that might be acceptable to both sides of the divide is never offered.Instead we keep reading about vague plans involving essentially bribing the Palestinians to forget their national aspirations. That would work as well as offering Uganda as a site for a Jewish national homeland. Utter poppycock.

  3. essentially bribing the Palestinians to forget their national aspirations.

I love it when revisionists talk history. Are they a nation Peskin? Arafat was born in Egypt. Is is a Pali or an Egyptian? since the Late 1800 most Arabs living in Palestine are from other parts in terms of origin like Saudi Arabia and Syria. Syria to this day considers all of Israel as part of Southern Syria like they consider Lebanon western Syria. Why are the Palis more deserving than say the Kurds or the Basques and hundreds of other minority groups all over the world? What are you looking to have another 500 failed states for every group who wants to declare themselves a specific and unique national entity? You have assimilated the lies of the enemy and that makes you a very very stupid asshole and hardly worth the time we take to respond to you.

If the Palis want a state and independence they need to fight and win it like every other country was formed. It’s not up to us to hand a sovereign state over to anyone or help them create one. Especially at our expense. Why don’t you offer them a homeland in part of Quebec, if they accepted and with G-d’s help they all might freeze to death. One can hope.

  5. Will return later. Going to see my 7 yr old granddaughter play soccer.

Find it refreshing. Give my little mind a breather and maybe come up a solution to the Palestinian issues.

Yamit, you are right. For folks who are not a nation they certainly gain a lot of attention from world leaders.

    It spells anti-Semitis.

  6. Pesky
You don’t care if Israel agrees to the two state solution but you care wwhether the Palis agree to an alternative.

Who says we need their agreement. Just annex he land and the Palis can decide to become good citizens or leave. Simple really.

    Hi, H.

Such a plan is never offered, because there is none. Do you have one? The Arabs call for Israel’s extinction, and the disappearance of Jews from the earth. If you can work that into a “mutually acceptable plan”, you’re a genius! Trying to solve the “Israel problem” is like trying to find a free lunch or trying to defy gravity. There are some “problems” in this world that are best dealt with by either (1) accepting them and living with them, or (2) anihilating one or both of the parties to them. The Arabs have been advocating #2, and I, for one, propose #1.
