Beilin: Netanyahu will freeze contruction for 10 months.

I find this article very interesting. Remember, Beilin has very close ties with Rahm Emanuel. If this comes down as he forecasts, it all smoke and mirrors as Gilo construction will continue, natural growth will continue and the announced 3000 units will continue. Ted Belman

Beilin: Temporary settlement freeze may lead to PA’s collapse

YNET

Former Meretz leader says Bibi plans on declaring 10-month West Bank construction freeze, Palestinians will protest US call to resume talks.

Yossi Beilin, former chairman of the leftist Meretz party, warned on Wednesday that a temporary freeze of Jewish construction in the West Bank would lead to the collapse of the Palestinian Authority.

During a ceremony at the Jaffa residence of French Ambassador Chritophe Bigot, during which he received the Legion of Honor, Beilin said he has learned that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to declare a 10-month settlement freeze. According to him, the Palestinian will not accept such a move and may dissolve as a result.

Beilin said the construction freeze will not include Jerusalem or building in the West Bank that is aimed at accommodating “natural growth” within the Jewish communities there.

“The Americans will say they had nothing to do with the declaration but that it indicates major progress and will call for resuming peace negotiations. The Palestinians will say, ‘No’,” according to Beilin.

“Such an announcement will create a vacuum, because the Palestinians will say that this marks the first time that the Americans recognize Israeli construction in the territories,” said the former Knesset member, “This may lead to the PA’s collapse.”

Beilin also criticized the US’ Mideast policy, saying President Barack Obama first year in office was “wasted.”

“Instead of conducting negotiations similar to those held in Madrid, (special Mideast envoy George) Mitchell failed,” he said.

  1. Yossi Beilin is a pathological liar, which may be his most attractive characteristic.
    Perfidy and cowardice also apply.
Of course he is tight with Rahm Emanuel.
These reprobates share a common dream: A Middle East refreshingly free of Jews.
Of all the American media’s outrageous lies - and there are more of them than stars in the sky - the most outrageous is that Kapo Emanuel is “pro-Israel”.
It is like contending that Charles Manson is pro-Sharon Tate.
Even Steven Wright would struggle to remain deadpan.

…the Palestinians will say that this marks the first time that the Americans recognize Israeli construction in the territories,” said the former Knesset member, “This may lead to the PA’s collapse.”

Good. In the ensuing civil war, I will be rooting for Hamas. Let’s make it as difficult as possible for the Jew-hating State Department to claim Israel is the primary impediment to peace.

Palestinian suicide bombers killing other Palestinian suicide bombers.

    Sweet.

  2. Is something is missing here?

Is Beilin suggesting that with Israel ceasing settlement expansion, the Palestinians will have lost a major plank in their hate Israel position and thus will be forced to give attention to and come to grips with their own internal rivalries which in turn will lead to internal fighting that will cause the Palestinian Authority to implode?

HMMMM!! Beilin tells us on the one hand….. I wonder what, if anything Beilin has to say about on the other hand……

Imagination can be a wonderful thing, usually employed by fiction writers to the delight of their readers.

Beilin’s freeing up his imagination to cast about for various, if that, then maybe that scenario predictions contributes nothing meaningful or useful.

I do not necessarily agree with Beilin’s contention. However I know that if there is a dispute over a piece of land and one disputant unilaterally changes the terrain of the land being negotiated over, the atmosphere becomes poisoned with bitterness and distrust. That is a recipe for failure. That has been happening since the start of Oslo.

You’re right the Arabs have built 50 times more than the Jews. Therefore creating facts on the ground in violation of all agreements especially OSLO. They have forced the Jews to grab what they can before those facts become irrevocable.

Don’t tell me you are in favor of ethnic cleansing and apartheid? Well you are as long it is directed against the Jews. You lousy piece of crap, we know what you think and what you are. Barbie Baby!@

  5. Yamit, Peskin tried to make a serious point. It can I think be fairly countered by referencing pertinent facts as you have or by noting as I was going to that the land was not being negotiated over, but sputtering and intermittent talks have been about negotiating over the land. Peskin’s view is a narrow microscopic view of one aspect of the conflicting positions and interests taken and thus fails to address the issue in terms of the larger picture.

Still, I do not think Yamit it was appropriate in this instance anyway for you to be so vitriloic in your disagreement with Peskin.

I know you might think me a wuss for advocating against sarcastic namecalling ad hominem attacks, but I do hope you and Peskin come to realize that it is unnecessary to do so in order to make your points strongly and clearly.

Seems though that it got your attention. Seems true to your profession you will defend anyone, which just goes to prove never trust a Lawyer or a politician. In both cases there seems to be a deficiency truth, common sense ethics and morality. That said, in anticipating your reply: I do still like most lawyers.

The devil visited a lawyer’s office and made him an offer. “I can arrange some things for you, ” the devil said. “I’ll increase your income five-fold. Your partners will love you; your clients will respect you; you’ll have four months of vacation each year and live to be a hundred. All I require in return is that your wife’s soul, your children’s souls, and their children’s souls rot in hell for eternity.”

The lawyer thought for a moment. “What’s the catch?” he asked

What do you get when you cross a lawyer with a demon from hell?

    No changes occur.

What’s the difference between a lawyer and a terrorist?

You can negotiate with a terrorist.

What’s the difference between God and an attorney?

God doesn’t think he’s an attorney.

If you are stranded on a desert island with Adolph Hitler, Atilla the Hun, and a lawyer, and you have a gun with only two bullets, what do you do?

    Shoot the lawyer twice.

If you drop a snake and an attorney off the Empire State Building, which one hits first?

    Who cares?

    Just funning Narvey

  7. Yamit: As someone who is a strong defender of the faith, and an ardent believer of a literal interpretation of the old testament, may I pose the following question,

If it took Gd only six days to create the world (a very tall order),why does it take fouteen days to smoke a brisket (not so tall order)?

bet you a half a pound of succulent pork chops that you can’t explain that anomaly

  8. :
Bill Levinson wrote. Israel should have annexed Gaza and the West Bank (and Sinai) after the 1967 war. When Egypt attacked Israel in 1973, Israel should have made it clear that Egypt would never get the land back and furthermore, if Egypt ever tried anything like that again, Cairo and the Aswan Dam would be blown up (just for a start). That is the only thing aggressors understand.
    ________________________________________________________________

    I responded:
I am old enough to remember Israel’s wars of 48, 67, 73. The media at that that time was solidly behind little Israel as it was being attacked by massed Arab national troops. The media then was no less liberal/left than it is now. What has changed is what I call image changeover. In the past Israel was perceived as courageous underdogs, pitted against bullying foreign invaders. Now the situation has been radically reversed. World opinion now sees Israel as the bully and Palestinians as victims. And that image cannot be easily erased. If you think world opinion is not important, think again.Since the Israeli invasion of Lebanon and escalating till Gaza Israel’s reputation and global position has been steadily eroding, by small increments. No dramatic changes but there is a demonization that reenforces Israel negative status. Over time that can have devastating effects.
Bill, the kind of final coup de gras, knockout blow that you keep dreaming about is illusory.America and world opinion just will not allow it.
Israel was never able to achieve a miltary victory, the effects of which endured. It never happened in the past, it will not happen in the future. Israel’s military victories brings some short term gains but along with some serious long term political defeats.
There was a popular catchy song written some 25 years ago.

Those were the days my friend
    We’d thought they’d never end
    We’d sing and dance
    Forever and a day
We’d live the life we’d choose
    We’d fight and never lose
And sure to have our way

Bill, those marvellous days are gone forever.
