Sovereignty Bill Braves Another Hurdle

POWER TO THE PEOPLE

by Hillel Fendel, INN

Jerusalem and the Golan Heights received more support for the sometimes faltering status of their Israeli sovereignty on Wednesday. The Knesset voted overwhelmingly to apply the “Rule of Continuity” to legislation ensuring that a withdrawal from those areas – or any change in Israel’s borders – would require both an outright 61-MK majority and a national referendum.

The bill requiring these measures passed its first reading in the previous Knesset, and supporters wished to ensure that it would not have to “start all over” in the current Knesset. However, this attempt was thwarted several weeks ago by the Likud’s Minister Dan Meridor in the Ministerial Committee for Legislation – the committee that overturned this very decision on Tuesday, paving the way for today’s Knesset vote.

The Knesset voted by a 68-22 margin not to require the legislation to “start all over.” Among the supporters, surprisingly, was Meridor himself. Defense Minister Ehud Barak of Labor also voted in favor, as a member of the government, but said that a referendum is not necessary.

The proposal is now back to where it was at the end of the last Knesset: Having passed its first Knesset reading, it must now be reviewed by a Knesset committee, most likely Foreign Affairs and Defense. If it passes there, it will be placed on the agenda for two final Knesset votes.

Minister Uzi Landau said the referendum bill “states something very simple: Every far-reaching decision on a change in Israel’s sovereignty… must be accepted by a clear majority of the nation and the public, without secret deals that the government might be able to make with MKs to get them to support it.”

Sammy Bar-Lev, mayor of the Golan’s only city, Katzrin, told Arutz 7, “This bill guarantees that the sovereignty of the state will be watched over not by politicians, but by the citizens. It is very important, and we are confident that it will be passed into law.”

Avigdor Kahalani, co-leader of the now-defunct political party The Third Way that strongly opposed a Golan withdrawal, said, “We must ensure that no Jew is forced to leave the Golan, and that Israel [continues to] have control of the high places there. Other issues, such as whether we might lease it from the Syrians for a few decades, can be negotiated.”

Uncle I don’t know that much about this but if it’s David’s Tomb the Jewish people should have all rights to it. If it is in fact the room of the Last Supper I am sure Israel will allow the church to share this sacred location.

The Vatican needs to stop being assertive on these issues. I am sure Israel will work something out with the church to share access to this sacred location. David was before the Last Supper.

I never heard of Israel denying the church access to any of the religious sites.

That’s the problem we should have not only said no but kicked them the hell out of our country. You wouldn’t want to hear what else I think they should have done.

Our top story tonight: yamit has declared war on the Catholic Church. Proclaiming himself the “One Man March”, El Hebrew Meshugga then proceeded to blow his nose on the Shroud of Turin and rewrite the lyrics to “Ave Maria” in a way that suggests that the Virgin Mother earned her rent money by working the docks.

Just what the Jews need, yamit.

    Sectarian conflict with papists.

How about one Holy War at a time?

India, Israel to ramp up military ties
    TNN 10 December 2009, 02:26am IST

NEW DELHI: India and Israel have decided to further bolster their already expansive military ties, especially in areas like joint R&D defence projects, counter-terrorism and intelligence-sharing.

This came after visiting Israeli Defence Forces chief of general staff Lt-General Gabi Ashkenazi met national security advisor M K Narayanan, Army chief General Deepak Kapoor, IAF chief Air Chief Marshal P V Naik and Navy chief Admiral Nirmal Verma on Wednesday.

Lt-Gen Ashkenazi is also slated to visit the Jaipur-based South-Western Army Command, one of the six operational commands of the 1.13-million strong Indian Army.

Indian armed forces have inducted a wide array of Israeli military hardware and software, ranging from UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles), electronic warfare suites and night-vision devices to missiles, anti-missile defence systems and sophisticated radars, after the 1999 Kargil conflict. Israel since then has rapidly emerged as India’s second largest defence supplier, notching up business worth a staggering $9 billion.

The focus now is on having joint R&D projects in fields like high-endurance and rotary UAVs, submarine-launched cruise missiles, anti-ballistic missile systems, network-centric operations, micro-satellite surveillance systems, advanced precision-guided munitions (PGMs) and third-generation night-vision devices.

The special status accorded to Israel can be gauged from the fact that the UPA government has not blacklisted Israeli armament companies despite allegations of kickbacks.

And then there are the Germans, who never change:

German ex-diplomats: Constant support of Israel must cease

Former German ambassadors call for assertive stand against Israel’s settlement policy; say Israel cannot have peace, keep hold on territories

    Sarah Stricker
    Published: 12.09.09, 23:20 / Israel News

Twenty-four former German ambassadors urged the German government to take a harder position against Israel and to rethink its Middle East policy.

In letters sent to German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, they ask for a more resolute stance against Israel’s settlement policy.

”Israel will not be able to keep on hoping to gain peace and retain its hold on Palestinian territories at the same time,” the group wrote in a position paper quoted by the Süddeutsche Zeitung daily.

The idea for the position paper was Martin Schneller’s, former German ambassador to Jordan. Among the diplomats who singed it were Hans-Georg Wieck, former chief of Germany’s Federal Intelligence service (BND), and German ambassadors Gerhard Fulda and Michael Libal.

Remember the past, look to the future

The diplomats stressed that Germany has committed itself to protect Israel’s security “as a historical legacy,” however, true security can “only be achieved through political means, not through occupation and colonization or by relying on military superiority. Instead, it can be reached by a withdrawal from the occupied Palestinian territories and a subsequent Palestinian state.”

The German Middle East policy, added the paper, should focus on the “urgent necessities of the future”, without forgetting the German-Jewish past.

The Middle East conflict as it is would constitute a “breeding ground for extremism that seriously threatens public safety, not only in the region itself but also in Europe and other parts of the world,” continued the paper.

The paper further calls for a “tougher stance” against Israel and the Palestinian Authority, which would demand they implement the two-state solution. “The continuation of certain benefits or financial support to one side or the other, as well as an increasing convergence with the European Union, could be made dependable of concrete progresses in conflict management.”

The fact that the letter mention financial sanction, even if very vaguely, is considered breaking a German taboo.

Among the changes the diplomats wish to instate is involving Hamas in the political process as a negotiating partner Germans supporting genocidal anti-Semites? How incongruous!. They also demanded the Gaza crossings be opened.

The diplomats claim that the “assertion that a Palestinian state will threaten Israel’s existence can no longer be accepted seriously, but a continued conflict will inevitably lead to unforeseeable risks.”

    ‘We’re not anti-Israel’

The paper, its authors stressed, is not meant to be anti-Israel. Former ambassador Michael Libal told German television that “We are not against Israel, we’re just for peace in the Middle East.”

The group said it wants to encourage the German government to support US-led peace initiatives, even if it calls for the use of some pressure.

Currently, he said, the principle of solidarity can be interpreted as supporting every Israeli policy by any Israeli government. “I think, in the long run, we’ll do Israel a greater service by participating in the international effort to achieve peace.”

German news website “Deutsche Welle Online” reported Wednesday that German diplomats had been secretly complaining for quite a while, that Germany thwarts any attempts to force Israel to adhere to international agreements.

The website cites the example of a consumers ban on settlement-produced goods by some European countries, which Germany hindered, as well as Germany’s efforts within EU bodies to curb the growing criticism of Israel’s the settlement policy.

All the sites are Holy and should not be disputed. I don’t know the answer but I wish the Vatican would step back and think this over.

If the Jews have complete control of the Holy sites we gain the love and respect of our Jewish brothers and sisters.

That should be the main goal.

    ‘We’re not anti-Israel’

Polls show modern Germans to be just as anti-Semitic as their grandparents. The German show of expiating their guilt is ultra-cynical: all the reparations paid to Israel and to Jews amount to a tiny fraction of the value of real estate and other property Germany confiscated after murdering the Jewish owners. So on the whole, the Holocaust proved economically beneficial to Germany and was also a boon socially, as the hated Jews literally evaporated.

I hate those who hate Jews, who killed us before and would kill again, given an opportunity. I hate them in the sense that I would gladly avenge the deaths of my fellow Jews at the hands of Germans or Ukrainians, but not perhaps in the sense of actively seeking an opportunity for revenge. Probably I’m wrong on this point; probably revenge should be carried out at every opportunity, at any level, rather than waiting for a grand opening which might never come.

May I suggest “Lady Madonna” by the Beatles in stead of “Ave Maria”? It’s got more kick and you won’t have to rework the lyrics. I still won’t join in on Yamit’s holy war, but I will come along for the jam session.

Only the implement of destruction has changed. It used to be the Gestapo. Now it is Hamas.

    An excellent selection.

The best vengeance is the continued existence of Israel.
The very fact of a Jewish State torments the Germans/Ukranians/Serbians/Poles/Brits/French/Belgians/Austrians/Muslims/JustAboutEverybodyElse.
It drives them to distraction, to the point where the UN has basically become nothing more than maniacs chanting, “Throw the Jew down the well.”
Every day that Israel exists is a dagger in their black little hearts.
Don’t underestimate how well the Six Million are being avenged.

Ayn, your on a roll and with the compliment by Uncle I suggest you buy a lottery ticket today. Like they say in Alabama, “Roll Tide”.

Now the Israeli leaders need to keep this in mind and can you imagine how much better it could be if the liberal American Jews were to get on board and support Israel. They of course have to jump off the obama train which appears to be headed for a crash.

I said it before no government is prepared to engage Israel physically to force any territorial change. It ain’t going to happen. The Jew haters only can rely on their constant verbal attacks with hope world opinion will force Israel to give in to their demands.

Israel needs to continue building and expanding her communities and taking charge of all territories including all of Jerusalem and not pay attention to outside interference.

I feel like a kid again, “sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me”.
