What is a Veteran?

Posted by Bill Levinson

The following one-sentence definition was part of a circulated E-mail we received, and it is the best we have ever seen. With proper rewording, it applies to the IDF as well.

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America” for an amount of “up to and including my life.”

And in return, the citizens of America provide our veterans with some of the worst hospitals I have ever visited.

Our priorities – and our morals – are out of whack.

GI means Government Issue. It means the Government owns you. Then consider that there is like a 20-1 ratio of non-combat to combat troops. 1 out of 20 will ever be at risk or be in harms way. For most it’s a job with restricted freedoms.
