Is Sarah Palin Pro-Israel: See For Yourself!
Cindy emailed a link to Alaska HDTV on February 20, 2008.
Watch the video–and note at about 7:12 you can clearly see an Israeli flag in the background and what seems to be an Israeli flag in Sarah Palin’s left lapel.

Cindy earlier posted a comment:
Fantastic decision all way around, and best possible choice for Israel and the war on terror in general I might add. (based on her church, since I too attend an Independent Bible church and know well the worldview that goes with that) [emphasis added]
So is Sarah Palin pro-Israel?
See for yourself.
(But don’t ask about Obama–he’s not even into showing off American flags.)
UPDATE: This emphasizes the foolishness of Rep. Robert Wexler of Florida’s attack on Palin as a supporter of Buchanan:
John McCain’s decision to select a vice presidential running mate that endorsed Pat Buchanan for president in 2000 is a direct affront to all Jewish Americans. Pat Buchanan is a Nazi sympathizer with a uniquely atrocious record on Israel, even going as far as to denounce bringing former Nazi soldiers to justice and praising Adolf Hitler for his “great courage.”
At a time when standing up for Israel’s right to self-defense has never been more critical, John McCain has failed his first test of leadership and judgment by selecting a running mate who has aligned herself with a leading anti-Israel voice in American politics. It is frightening that John McCain would select someone one heartbeat away from the presidency who supported a man who embodies vitriolic anti-Israel sentiments.
In his rush to criticize Palin, Wexler has failed a test of his own.
On the other hand, over at Politico, Ben Smith confirms that little is actually known about Palin’s personal view of Israel:
In reality, Palin’s record on Israel, while friendly, is as thin as you’d expect from the first-term governor of Alaska.
RJC spokeswoman Suzanne Kurtz said, however, that based on conversations with Alaska Jews, she’s confident Palin is a friend of Israel.
I spoke to two of Palin’s Jewish allies in Alaska (of the roughly 6,000 Jews there), both of whom stressed that she’d signed a resolution supporting Israel and Alaska’s ties to the Jewish state. (She’s pictured above right at the signing.)
The resolution (after the jump) is supportive but unexceptional. Both of the Alaska Jews, rabbi Joseph Greenberg and businessman Terry Gorlick, said she was “conservative” on foreign affairs but that they’d never discussed the details of Israel policy with her.
Gorlick said she had never visited Israel, had promised to visit and recently postponed plans to work on Alaska pipeline issues.
“She’s absolutely a friend of the Jewish community in Alaska,” he said, adding that she had a “confirmed commitment” to visit Israel.
As Smith notes, the statement put out by the Republican Jewish Coalition never mentions Israel at all–instead noting that:
As governor of Alaska, Palin has enjoyed a strong working relationship with Alaska’s Jewish community. She has demonstrated sensitivity to the concerns of the community and has been accessible and responsive.
Hopefully, we will soon be hearing more about Palin’s stand on Israel from Palin herself.
Another Update: Israel Matzav writes about a visit to the website of Palin’s church:
Free Republic points to Palin’s church’s web site. The church web site has several sermons online. I clicked on one - a Word document called The Jerusalem Dilemma. It turns out to come from a guest preacher - one David Brickner who is a member of Jews for Jesus…
…Am I thrilled about this? No. Is this worse than Jeremiah Wright? In its own way, it’s not better. Jews don’t proselytize and don’t want to be proselytized by others. But Brickner is a guest preacher and not the regular preacher. Do I expect Sarah Palin to start proselytizing Jews for Jesus? No. Do I expect Barack Hussein Obama to be influenced by his Muslim upbringing and his Jew-hating Israel-hating preacher? Yes. So are we better off with Obama? Sorry Bob Wexler, but no.
What does Palin have to do to convince Israelis and Jews to vote for herself and McCain? Let’s start with disowning that sermon by Brickner, which took place just two weeks ago. Let’s continue with hearing more specifics about where she stands on Israel and other issues that are important to Jews. We’re listening.
Yes, some specifics would be nice right about now.

She stole an Israeli flag on a toothpick out of a Bar Mitzvah cake. Scandalous!
And is it just my imagination or is that a big “blue and white” Inuit pin she’s wearing?
Comment by Shy Guy — September 1, 2008 @ 9:53 am
While I don’t agree with the theology of “The Jerusalem Dilemma,” it doesn’t blood libel Israel (like a guest opinion piece in Obama’s church’s official bulletin), call upon God to curse America (like Obama’s pastor), or call for divestment from Israel (like another piece from Jeremiah Wright).
Um, yes, Palin is a Christian, so we would expect her to worship in a church where the sermons are Christian, just as we would expect Joe Lieberman to worship in a synagogue and hear sermons with Jewish theological content.
Wexler is just a typical political shill for the Democrat Left. Palin apparently wore a Pat Buchanan pin, which she says she does as a courtesy for any political figure who visits her office. I could do without that anyway, but I’ll call Wexler’s Pat Buchanan with Obama’s open endorsement of Al Sharpton, and raise him a Jeremiah Wright, a Louis Farrakhan, a Michael Pfleger, an Otis Moss (who thanked God for Pfleger’s racist tirade), a Bill Ayers, a MoveOn.org, and a “Dreams From My Father.”
Now, is Wexler going to call or fold? I think he is looking at his hand, and there ain’t no one looking back, while the Trinity United Church of Christ is a full house (of racists) all by itself.

Kids do make stupid mistakes all of the time, including getting a girl pregnamt. Until teenage girls are forced to wear chasity belts it will continue to happen. Palin’s daughter will have her baby and the father will be wed to her. This is the right thing to do.
So far as Palin’s position, it will have no effect and the lousy scumbag journalists should stop reporting on a subject that has noting to do with Palin’s job requirements. I will still vote for her and McCain.
Comment by Ed D — September 1, 2008 @ 3:45 pm
Hi, Yamit.
Teen pregnancies are about as common in the American family scene (Christian, Jewish, Left, Right — it makes no real difference) as divorces. I haven’t checked the latest figures, as to which has the higher rate. My “holy roller” friends are not fazed by this sort of thing, so I think you’re right. The fact that the Left is “all about” the story just shows how petty and detached from reality they are. McCain and the whole Republican Party took time out from their convention to show concern for the victims of Hurricaine Gustav, while Obama stayed aloof and his team went around trying to dig up dirt on a virtuous woman.
Two million temporary refugees filling the whole eastern US is a big deal, and they are traumatized. The fragile dike system is still a real cause for concern. Two million people have a lot of close friends and relatives across the country, and you can bet there are a few million Americans who have been through similar situations. McCain was really presidential here, as he was when the Russkies invaded Georgia. Obama, by contrast, has been shown to be petty, self-seeking and not ready for the job of leading the country. I hope the majority of Americans notice the difference.
Comment by BlandOatmeal — September 1, 2008 @ 7:46 pm
From euphoria to despair.
I don’t think this pregnancy will play out well. Conservative Republican women were already wondering how Mrs. Palin could juggle five kids, including a baby with Down’s syndrome, and still be an effective governor and vice-presidential candidate. And now her 17 year old unmarried daughter, still in high school, turns out to be five months pregnant.
So the Republicans, screaming about how Britney Spears’ 16 year old sister just giving birth proves that all atheistic Democrats are whores and tramps, now have to eat crap because of Mrs. Palin’s kid, and her soon to be bastard grandchild. So much for family values.
It looks like McCain’s brilliant choice on Friday may be his undoing by Monday.
Comment by Samuel Fistel — September 1, 2008 @ 9:30 pm
Sam,
I don’t know what sort of morality you think Republicans have. Many of my Pilgrim and Puritan ancestors got pregnant as teens. They married, were charged with fornication when the baby was born, then continued as resprcted and respectable citizens. I dare say that even a Jew or two has done this sort of thing, but perhaps I’m blaspheming here.
Comment by BlandOatmeal — September 1, 2008 @ 11:59 pm
We all have faults, flaws, and imperfections. We all sin and make mistakes. Part of the REDEMPTION process is learning from our past failures and mistakes and showing some improvement and all of the trials we face on earth is supposed to move us towards God’s Love, not just towards Heaven and God’s Holiness, but also towards each other. When someone practices godly sorrow that leads to repentance, we can forgive them, understanding that NOBODY on earth is GOOD, HOLY, OR PERFECT (attributes that GOD EXCLUSIVELY has so no one on earth can boast they are God’s Equal, but does not diminish our ability to strive for goodness, holiness, and perfection since we are all made in God’s Image physically and spiritually); every day and night is a second chance to live life differently. Today, as a major Category 5 hurricane became a tropical storm over Louisiana, many leaders pushed aside politics and became AMERICANS by putting the safety and security of the people first - the LOVE, the CONCERN, the COMPASSION, the plan of action was PHENOMENAL! We can thank the God of Heaven. And for you who would boast and call this hurricane an ‘act of God against Republicans’ we can now call the REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION,the REDEEMED NATIONAL CONVENTION who showed honor and class by putting aside their convention and doing a fundraiser for potential victims of the new GUSTAV storm. Where we FAILED during Hurricane Katrina, we learned from history and saved lives today and I am very proud of our leaders here in America for the LOVE, CONCERN, COMPASSION, and CLASS they showed. While Obama showed ZERO CLASS by continuing to attack Republicans, MCCain and Bush and was singing next to Aretha Franklin for more BLACK RACIST jargon, Obama was utterly humiliated this week as proving himself to be without honor, without class, without dignity. As for Sarah Palin’s daughter being pregnant, I applaud her for getting married and it’s really a NON-ISSUE - Obama did show some honor by not attacking Palin’s daughter (how noble) but continued, during the storm, to just keep attacking others. Well, historical mistakes were corrected this week and Obama can now shut his ugly fat black lips.
As for Sarah Palin, she has Sunstar’s full support - when I saw her in a taped video of firing a weapon at the NRA you have no idea how much that turned me on! Let’s hope her support for Israel aims that weapon in the direction of Israel’s enemies when it comes to leadership time!
REGARDING PAT BUCHANAN:
I actually read one of Pat Buchanan’s books “WHERE THE RIGHT WENT WRONG” and in it, he staunchly defends Israel and expresses his point of view in the importance of securing Israel’s Statehood against Islamic terrorism - so he is not a Nazi sympathizer. I have also heard him personally speak about his position on Israel’s Right To Exist and he has always been a defender of Israel’s Statehood. So quoting Buchanan as a “Jew” hater is wrong information. After reading Buchanan’s personal writings, he actually quite an honorable person sometimes. I’m not one to praise or flatter politicians because we all know how the money game rules the world and people’s decisions are often swayed by financial persuasions.

If you saw Steve Harrigan facing the storm - you know it’s going to be all right! An applause to Steve Harrigan, a brave and courageous news reporter. An applause to ALL REPUBLICANS WHO SHOWED DIGNITY, CLASS, AND HONOR during this storm and gaining the vote of confidence during this round with the heroic attitude: NOT ON OUR WATCH! Thank you for your love and patriotism! You can now be called:
THE REDEEMED NATIONAL CONVENTION! I prayed for the storm to move away from the RNC and the Lord certainly answered my prayers. However, MORE STORMS are on the horizon and we need a plan to show Americans how we plan to face these coming storms together as more Natural Disasters are on the way - what’s the plan for the future of natural disaster relief for Americans?
G-d bless you all - more work to be done. Onward Christian and Israeli soldiers march!

My final Sarah Palin thought for the day is the song by Jimi Hendrix entitled: FOXY LADY!
The image of her holding a gun at the NRA, pointing the gun and firing it - that’s my kind of woman! She’s tough; she’s smart; she’s got experience as a Governor; she’s just the kind of woman VP that America needs right now! And her support for Israel makes her all the more hot and sexy! She’s AMAZING!
I hope that America will point a weapon with her towards Israel’s enemies!

The revelations regarding Palin in the last few days and the questions those revelations are spawning, even if unwarranted reflect poorly on McCain and his people.
Surely they should have better vetted Palin as a possible running mate.
If the evidence comes out that Palin did use her office and position to try to get her former brother in law fired from the police force, McCain will have to dump her and choose another. The damage however will have already been done and that damage will have destroyed McCain’s chances of winning the election.
Comment by Bill Narvey — September 2, 2008 @ 9:21 am
Bill,( MY FRIEND) laughing to myself.
The more the male media and male politicians attack her the more many women will rally to her defense, especially over really minor alleged offenses that if she were a male would not have elicited much noise or even public notice. What these minor scandals will do is to raise the publics familiarity with an unknown political candidate for high public office. Call it free advertising. in a week or so the whole story of the daughter will be behind her and the brother in law investigation will be either buried or results announced after Nov. elections. Her I like it is McCain who is a mental dwarf.

Palin supported Buchanan after he was a discredited figure in respectable Republican cirlces. The Palins were for Buchanan in 1996. It was in 1999 that she put the button on as Mayor, but reportedly didn’t endorse his candidacy.
As for Robert Wexler, his is deliberately conflating his personal ambition with what is good for Israel. He was an early supporter of Obama and has been a staunch defender of Obama against any charges of anti-Israel and anti-Jewish views or associations. Wexler now gets the chance to tie Palin to Buchanan, a much more distant relationship than Obama to Wright, or Obama to Rashid Khalid, or Obama to the Nation of Islam. Wexler is an opportunist, hoping for a cabinet position or support when he runs for a more powerful office. His passionate Zionism, like his phony Florida residency, is a pose. Wexler is out for Wexler. Another politician using Israel and anti-semitism as weapons to attack opponents while Iran continues to develop nuclear weapons. Some priorities.

Here is the results of a genealogcal search of the family tree of our future V.P. Sarah Palin. Her parents were Samuel Palin a non observant Unitarian and her mother Shaindel Levinwicz a Polish-Jewish immmigrant. She also has some Georgian, Ukrainian forebearers. Her Dad worked on a Ford assembly line for some 25 years.Although she claims to be Christian, she has been seen on several occasions near an Anchorage mikva.
Prediction- When McCain-Palin assumes leadership of the U.S. administration, within 10 days the American embassy will be moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. And Washington will ask the Palestinians to take a hike. And everybody will live happily ever after.
And most important, Yamit and Peskin will kiss and make up.
And let us all say amen!

If conservatives haven’t become such demoralized crybabies we’d be sweeping the Congress this election.
What the hell do the Democrats offer? Absolutely nothing other than misery… but the Media has everyone brainwashed and so everyone is playing their roles.

McCain’s maverick pick
By Jeff Jacoby
http://www.JewishWorldReview.com | If nothing else, John McCain’s choice of Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska as his running mate instantly changed the subject from Barack Obama’s dramatic acceptance speech in Denver the night before. With one stroke, McCain defied convention, galvanized Republicans, and gave Hillary Clinton’s legions another reason to consider crossing party lines in November: It is McCain, not Obama, who will be sharing a national ticket with a gutsy and accomplished woman. The Palin pick is a vivid illustration of why the label “maverick” is so often applied to McCain.
Those who have observed the 44-year-old governor up close speak highly of her political skills. She took on her own party’s ethically challenged leadership and beat it handily, and has gone on to earn high approval ratings for her own performance in office. Unlike Alaska’s better-known politicians, she is a spending hawk and a committed porkbuster; notably, she pulled the plug on her state’s notorious $400 million “bridge to nowhere.”
Palin is about as far from a “Washington insider” as anyone in politics can be - a striking contrast to Obama’s running mate, six-term Senator Joseph Biden. Her family story is thoroughly middle-class and charming: The former beauty contestant and self-described “hockey mom” is married to her high school sweetheart, with whom she has five kids, ranging from the 18-year-old in the Army to the infant with Down syndrome. And it certainly upends familiar stereotypes to have a national GOP candidate whose spouse belongs to the Steelworkers Union and races snowmobiles for fun.
Of course McCain is taking a big gamble. Palin has been governor for less than two years, has no foreign-policy or national-security experience, and has never been through the gauntlet of a national campaign. Whether she can hold her own on the stump and under the withering glare of the national media, we will all know soon enough. Many voters will understandably read McCain’s choice as cynical, in part because he has made such an issue of Obama’s limited record. But surely Palin’s lack of expertise on defense and international issues makes Obama’s inexperience all the more conspicuous. The Democratic nominee is as green and untested as she is. There is one key difference between them, however: She’s not running for president.
Which is why it seems to me that McCain’s choice of Palin, like Obama’s of Biden, probably changes very little about this campaign. For all the attention they get from the pundits and politicos, VP picks rarely make a difference in the essential nature of any presidential contest.
Think of 1988, when George H.W. Bush’s selection of Senator Dan Quayle of Indiana triggered a frenzy of media mockery, while Michael Dukakis’s pick of Senator Lloyd Bentsen of Texas was widely applauded. When the two running mates debated, Bentsen elegantly dispatched Quayle with a put-down - “You’re no Jack Kennedy” - that became an instant classic. Yet when the votes were tallied in November, Bush-Quayle had won in a 40-state landslide.
In 1996, Republican Bob Dole picked New York congressman Jack Kemp, the GOP’s sunny supply-side tax warrior, “because he would give a big shot of energy to the ticket,” campaign manager Scott Reed recently recalled. But Kemp’s enthusiasm couldn’t change the fact that Dole had no chance against Bill Clinton.
Four years ago, John Kerry drew cheers when he tapped his primary-campaign rival, former senator John Edwards of North Carolina. “Democrats have what many consider their dream team,” exulted CBS. On the cover of Newsweek, the two Democrats were hailed as “The Sunshine Boys.” Yet the South went solidly for George W. Bush; Edwards couldn’t even carry his home state.
For all the ink and bandwidth devoted to the Veepstakes, it is almost always the candidate at the top who seals the deal with the electorate - or doesn’t. Palin and Biden will enliven the nine weeks remaining until Nov. 4, but barring some extraordinary development or colossal blunder, they won’t change the outcome. The race isn’t about them. It is about Obama and McCain. It is between the uplifting but insubstantial charisma of the former and the battle-tested experience and judgment of the latter.
In Denver, the Democrats strove to cast McCain as little more than a Bush clone. “We love this country too much to let the next four years look just like the last eight,” Obama declared Thursday night.
But most voters know that McCain is his own man. The real mystery, as the Republicans gathering in Minnesota will be emphasizing all week, is who Obama is, and whether he’s fit to be commander in chief. That is what this year’s election will turn on. Palin and Biden may make things more interesting, but don’t confuse them with the main event.

Bush, Mrs. Bush, Fred Thompson, and Joseph Lieberman just gave one of the best speeches for America! COUNTRY FIRST is the theme and I just loved every moment. Joseph Lieberman and Fred Thompson had the guts to stand up and tell it like it is. I encourage EVERYONE here to read the transcripts from tonight’s RNC. Tonight’s RNC just showed all of the HONORABLE reasons why I’m voting for MCCain/Palin and all the reasons WHY I, as a non-partisan voter, usually vote for Republicans over Democrats! Class, honor and dignity were shown today - and Lieberman hit a HOME RUN when he stated: VOTE FOR THE BEST PERSON FOR THE JOB - not the party. What a great Obama smackdown! If Americans and Faithful Israelis in America are smart; if African Americans who are done playing the crying game are smart; if women who are done pulling FEMI-NAZI propoganda; Americans will unite together and vote for the MCCain/Palin ticket as the best people for the job of continuing the NECESSARY FIGHT against America and Israel’s enemies. I am virtually speechless with tears in my eyes right now. Tonight just proved that the next American President, in order to keep America and Israel safer and securer from America and Israel’s enemies will be John MCCain and Sarah Palin! Sarah Palin had my support when I first saw her because I could see the content of her HONORABLE character TODAY. We all sin, make mistakes, and have funny stuff go on when we’re young - heck, I partied, got laid and did drugs when I was young - every American male does that - and every American woman has had their share of harlotism too - but if all that those evil democrats have is to attack Palin’s daughter, it’s just another missed brownie nosing point for them to show just how truly pathetic the democratic left is - The RNC showed the best PATRIOTIC spirit tonight - MCCain and Palin have my applause, my prayer support, and my hopes for success - for the protection and preservation of America FIRST and Israel in the Middle East FIRST - G-d bless our leaders during this difficult and unprecedented age!

No idea about the flag, but the pin is a son in service pin, not an israeli flag. This is according to the guys that made the video: the HD guys.
I find it utterly impossible to believe that if a Democrat woman were in the position that Palin was in, that we’d see anything different from the right as far as lecturing her about putting ambition over family. In fact, it would likely be worse. And there wouldn’t be a Republican version of Obama to say that it’s an issue out of bounds either.
“McCain and the whole Republican Party took time out from their convention to show concern for the victims of Hurricaine Gustav, while Obama stayed aloof and his team went around trying to dig up dirt on a virtuous woman.”
Try again. They canceled the public events that the media was invited to, but all the private parties and such continued apace. And Obama’s staff was not “aloof”: they canceled campaigning. And all the dirt dug up on Palin has been dug up by two seconds of googling by bloggers and the media. The real dirt is all the substantive issue stuff. It’s the McCain campaign that desperately wants the story to be all about the soap opera: to distract people from all the kooky politics that’s come out along with the complete collapse of her phony claim to be a pork buster (do pork busters hire Abramoff/Steven connected lobbyists to win 27 million dollars worth of pork for a town of 6,000? Do they support the Bridge to Nowhere until long long after the horse has already left the barn on canceling it?)
