Ambassador Richard H. Jones Hangs up “Juden Verboten” Signs in Jerusalem
‘US concerned over building in J’lem’
On Monday during a tour of Mea Shearim, a haredi neighborhood bordering on Arab neighborhoods in east Jerusalem, US Ambassador to Israel Richard H. Jones told The Jerusalem Post that the US was “concerned about where things are built in Jerusalem”.
Referring to the overcrowded haredi neighborhoods in Jerusalem, Jones said he was aware of the shortage of housing, but added: “Sometimes people do have to move to a different location. They cannot always stay close to their families.”
After 2000 years of Jews being told where they could and could not live, walled into Ghettos, given designated Jewish areas, the State of Israel was founded in order to create a place where Jews could live freely, only to have the US Ambassador stride into its capitol, which the US continues to refuse to recognize, sniff around and proclaims that Jews cannot live in their own capitol city.
Once again Juden Verboten signs have been hung up, this time in Yerushalayim by our “closest ally.” I’m reminded of the following editorial from the Jewish Press circa 1991.
Still No Room for the Jew
Two thousand years ago the Roman Emperor Titus decided that there was no room in his empire for an independent Jewish authority. So he destroyed the Holy Temple, and carried off its captives to Rome.
Thereafter, in state after state in Europe, the Jew was forbidden to own land. In time Jews were herded into separate areas called Ghettos. Until fairly recent times, even in our own great democracy, the Jew was forbidden to dwell in “Aryan” pure areas.
Now — yes now in 1991 — the leader of the greatest democracy on earth is telling the Jew where he may or may not dwell in his own country! The poor “little “lonely guy” in the White House, Texas oil millionaire, patronizing patrician, is making threats against the Stubborn Prime Minister of Israel, that unless the latter stops building housing in certain sections for Russian immigrants escaping Russia, he will be punished.
Still no room for the Jew even after 2,000 years!
Its OK to apply apartheid policies to the Jews. No nation recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

No one told American politicians where to live so what right do they have toward us. Many Americans in our past fought and died so that this would never happen to Americans, no matter what their positions. There too, it will not happen in Israel either.

Recall our ambassador to US, throw Chaney out and get this yutz recalled. He is an insult to our country.

Ambassador Jones’ caution to Olmert against further building in Jersualem does not seem herald any new or firmer stance by the U.S. in seeking to push Israel to adhere to the Road Map and any committements made by Olmert at Annapolis.
In another related JP article, it appears Olmert has taken a stance that is dismissive of Ambassador Jone’s caution and Palestinian negative reaction to further building in Jerusalem. See:
