Fight for unconditional surrender.

By Ted Belman

JPOST reports Draft UNSC resolution on Gaza rejected. It seems everyone is scurrying around like cockroaches to achieve a ceasefire.

After rejecting the Arab draft as “unbalanced” ( must it be balanced?) ,

US Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad said the United States was working very hard to achieve an immediate cease-fire implemented by both sides, but he said Washington had not seen “any evidence” yet that Hamas was willing to end its rocket attacks.

The best way to move forward, he said, would be to get an agreement among the parties for a cease-fire and humanitarian access to Gaza through diplomacy, “and for that agreement to be enshrined in a Security Council resolution if necessary.”

A ceasefire just postpones the fight to another day. Any agreement must involve the immediate disarmament of Hamas. Who is going to do this? Who is going to enforce it thereafter? Only Israel. Hamas must be left with no power to fight. It should not be left with any negotiating position.

  1. True. Who is going to eliminate Hamas? The EU, the Russians, the Americans? Israeli leaders who think international guarantees are enforceable are hallucinating and are doing the country a disservice. Only Israel can do the job - no one else can and will do that job. National security is not something a country can subcontract out to other nations.

  2. Consider this: Olmert, Livni and Ehaud went into this war when they did so as to try to win the election. If they did win, it will be the same-o-same-o.

  3. The real decision maker in the mideast is the U.S.- America deems the excessive deaths of Palestinian civilians as furthering the cause of Al Qaeda. Israel remains very constrained in its actions in Gaza because of this fact. All Israeli leaders both present and aspiring are very well aware of this reality. After 9/11, international terrorism rather than the Israel-Palestinian dispute is the U.S. main concern. That is why America is negotiating a behind the scene truce. And when America will eventually order a truce Israel will comply.

  4. Well, I think I got it, It’s another pretend war and the basis is electioneering. There will continue to be a deteriorating mess now for years , or decades, until ?

I’d hate to be an Israeli in these decades. The game and the game players will twist your life into meaninglessness. You must give your best effort but whatever it is used for is beyond your control.
Copping out is not an option but there are no two feet on the ground.

Either the brains are vacuumed or there is a zen-like state of militant fatalism.

  5. For four days the IDF blamed the weather for not moving ground troops in so as not to be stuck in Gaza mud and with limited air support. (It seems they have anti aircraft rockets as well and have used them daily). Today the weather is fine skies are clear, a bit cold but that only helps to harden the ground. So what is the excuse now?

Gordon, we got your message and have rejected it so what do you seek? To Goebbels us until we start to think like you?( G-d forbid), It won’t work schmuck.
