President Bush overrules Rice on Gaza

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was visibly frustrated when the White House told her to veto a resolution demanding a Hamas-Israeli cease-fire - a resolution she had spent three days negotiating.
The White House said its decision reflected an understanding reached between President Bush and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

Miss Rice persuaded the White House to abstain from voting on the resolution, which passed by a vote of 14-0, said a U.S. official with firsthand knowledge of last week’s events. The official requested anonymity to avoid embarrassing the Bush administration.
Israel and Hamas then ignored the resolution, demonstrating a pattern that routinely bedevils the nominally powerful U.N.

The UN is not that powerful. And it cannot abridge the sovereignty of a Member State in violation of the Charter.

She apparently bought into the myth the Palestinians would vote for the “moderate” party. The vast majority of them voted in Hamas. In Germany, at no time did a majority of Germans vote for Hitler. He and his Nazis had to be installed in power by a backroom deal.

Rice, in my opinion, has no clue on the meaning of freedom. Without directions from Bush she would have sided with Arab murderers, no matter who was responsible for the inhumane treatment of of ciciliabs in the south of Israel. Now that American administrations have changed, perhaps we have seen the last of her.

AND BUSH, TOO, FOR ALLOWING HER TO DO NOTHING BUT MUCK THINGS UP FOR SO VERY LONG. (though she was very professional about it, anyway - Like Barney Fife.)
