‘Syria, Iran must be involved in talks’

President-elect Obama

Five days before he is sworn in as the 44th president of the United States, President-elect Barack Obama said in an interview with CBS that he intends to act “from Day One” to stop the violence between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

“We are going to start on Day One, we are going to take a regional approach, we’re going to have to involve Syria in discussions, we are going to have to engage Iran…” Obama said in the interview aired Wednesday night.

Obama added that while he was committed to Israel’s security, the issue must be solved with utmost urgency.

The president-elect reiterated his call for a two-state solution.

Earlier in the week, Obama stood by comments he made this summer in Sderot on the right of Israelis to defend themselves, saying that “a basic principle of any country is that they’ve got to protect their citizens.”

He was asked about his Sderot comments, which included his statement that he would do “everything in my power” to stop rockets attacks on a house where his daughters slept and expected Israel to do the same, during an interview with George Stephanopoulos on ABC.

Obama also told Stephanopoulos that the situation in the region demonstrated the importance of strong US engagement from the beginning of his term, since “working through the politics of this requires a third party that everybody has confidence [in]… to see a fair and just outcome.” (Continue Reading this Article)

  1. The only way to stop the violence is to kill all the terrorists and destroy the terror organizations.

Obama is committed to help the terrorists and terrorist states. He want so look like MLK of peace no matter what so everything will be deceit, lies, news suppression, terrorist enabling and dead Israelis and empowered Hamas and Hezbollah.

    Dark days ahead for Israel.

  2. Obama is looking for political gain, a place in the history books and has very little “skin in the game” as he likes to phrase it.

On the other hand, Israel is at the heart of the REAL war on terrorism and has its blood, treasure and future on the table.

This simple truth overrides Obama’s desire to allow terror states like Syria and Iran a say in Israel’s fate.

If I could give Obama a few words of advice on the ME - if he thinks that promises and paper from Muslim states have any real meaning then he will be sadly disappointed and, worse, Israel will be left to deal with the consequences.

Support your known friends, Mr. Obama, and forget about people who for their own reasons wish to remain pariahs looking to destroy, kill and terrorize anything that does not conform to their 6th century view of the world.

When the Muslims are ready for peace and for getting along with others, they will let you know - you should not force them into a civilized world that they are not ready to accept (and then sell out Israel to satisfy their bloodthirsty demands).

  3. I’m not worried. Israel has outlasted all her enemies and all their scheming and all their plans are coming to naught. She must not put her trust in princes who cannot save but in the Living G-d, the G-d Of Israel!

  4. “working through the politics of this requires a third party that everybody has confidence [in]… to see a fair and just outcome.”

presumes anyone has any confidence in the United States??? Still, Hillary said the same thing in her confirmation hearing: Syria and Iran. Not Egypt or Gaza. On day 1, there is no SecTreas - MUCH bigger problem.

Code Pink is currently conducting an aggressive campaign to force a congressional vote on support for the Palestinians in Gaza. Code Pink calls HRes 34 the “AIPAC bill”. Kerry kept the Code Pinks out of camera view and silent during Hillary’s confirmation hearing, which was a nice change from the past. But, next week will be a real test of whether Obama’s professed pragmatism overrules the U.S. anti-war left which has gone bonkers over Gaza (and using MyBO Group emails, which are impossible to moderate or stop).

My guess is Obama will try very hard to not do anything that will influence Israel’s election. I wonder if he realizes that no present or future Israeli government should ever let the U.S. twist their arm again.
