Obama’s Pastor Questioned Israel’s Legitimacy
by Bill Levinson
We are coming up on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Israel or, as the Trinity United Church of Christ’s friends in the Sabeel Ecuminical Liberation Theology Center put it, the Nakba or “catastrophe.” Sabeel’s denial of Israel’s right to exist is entirely consistent with a Trinity United Church of Christ bulletin–the official bulletin of the church of which Barack Hussein Obama has been a member for more than 20 years–in which Jeremiah Wright questions Israel’s legitimacy as a nation. Per “Look Again,”
Most of our members do not know that my Master’s Degree from the University of Chicago’s Divinity School was in the area of Islam in West Africa during the 19th Century — when the trans-Atlantic Slave Trade was at its zenith. Islam has as many manifestations as Christianity and Judaism, but most Americans are only fed a media diet on Islam as it relates to the “war on terror” and the Palestinian muslim problem in the “state” of Israel.
Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A Wright, Jr, Senior Pastor
This is entirely consistent with the Trinity United Church of Christ’s publication of an opinion piece by a Hamas terrorist named Marzook, another opinion piece with a blood libel that accuses Israel of developing an “ethnic bomb” to kill Negroes and Arabs, and of course the United Church of Christ’s solidarity with an organization like Sabeel that calls the foundation of Israel a “catastrophe.” We encourage our readers to circulate this information and the screen shot (below) as widely as possible.
In a twisted way, and considering Wright’s other views, I’m rather happy that he’s no less a knee-jerk hater of Israel than he is otherwise objectionable. And Obama’s Middle East adviser team essentially shares that absurd view of Israel – a fact that isn’t stressed nearly enough.
On the day following the suicide of a co-worker, her colleagues (among them me) held a memorial. We had no idea what would have made her throw herself from her balcony, but we liked her and wanted to remember the good things about her and her contributions on the job. A black women who knew her fairly well stepped to the podium. We recognized her as a dedicated worker, but at the time we did not know that she was also an ordained Baptist minister with a long history in the branch of American Baptists that catered to the black community. Well, she scared the hell out of us, because the first thing she did was let out a long, bloodcurdling scream. Later, we were told that this action was called “raising the spirit.”
The scream was unrelated to the poor dead woman and the reasons for her demise and unrelated to the good work she performed. The scream was purely a mechanism for focusing attention on the problem at hand. It is an approach unlike that found in most of Judaism at most times. The Sephardi Jews are are more likely to wail at the graveside than Eastern European Jews, but today that response has mostly been modified to loud sobbing or quieter sobbing. In ancient Israel (time of the Talmud) part of the expense of a funeral was the need to hire wailers. However, such loud noise was always limited to the burial portion of the mourning customs.
The real problem with the black church and its “raising of the spirit” becomes most apparent when words are added to the scream. The logic and the truth of the words becomes unimportant. Again, the need is to “raise the spirit.” The affirmations that come from the congregation during the pastor’s screaming rant also has little to do with logic or truth. The important thing is to be on the same page, everybody all together, not matter how ridiculous the verbal assertions. There is precious little parsing of statements to extract truth, to determine veridicality.
If anyone ever asked Rev. Wright where he learned about the Jewish bomb to kill Negroes and Arabs, he would think it to be a stupid question. What difference does it make! That it matters greatly to the accused Jews does not bother him a bit either, since the purpose of his statements is to produce unity of affirmation for his underlying thesis about Jews.
The Jews have to face it. In the history of accusations against them, accuracy does not matter, not among the black ministers of Wright’s ilk or the white leftists or the Nazis. Truth will remain as rare and as precious a commodity as diamonds in a world filled with dirt.
Obama Schmomama, If America votes him in as President? well what can one say about a country that worships American Idol and Opfra? Alexander King once said that the American negro was happy to have Puerto Ricans as it gave them someone to look down upon. If it was once true it is no longer the peurto ricans have moved up and beyond the negro. I wonder why?
