Oh, something other than a baseball bat to the head set of rhetorical insinuations, presumptions, fusillades; something other than a highly arrogated and categorical dismissiveness; something other than culling out any substantive and thoughtful counter opinions that fail to conform with your own preconceived notions; something other than being rhetorically pissed on for advancing informed counter opinions and reviews from highly reputable, even distinguished reputable sources, including Semitic/Jewish sources. Not that you're asking the question with much serious intent to begin with, given the tone herein, and given the question itself can reasonably be thought of as yet one more defensive or even offensive rhetorical salvo, rather than a form of honest, unbeguiling inquiry. Three counter opinion summaries: Michael Novak, American theologian. Doug Giles, critic, commentator. Ezra Levant, highly educated and thoughtful Canadian Jew. In my own case I'll still come back here for some informed and thoughtful opinion on other topics and will steadfastly remain pro-Israel. But that will be despite your rebarbative bigotries and low intolerance in other areas, not because of them. Posted by: Michael B on February 28, 2004 01:16 PM Post a comment |
antisemitism?
"For two hours, Christians watch their Savior tortured and killed. For the same two hours, Jews watch Jews arrange the killing and torture of the Christians' Savior.
In order to avoid further tension between two wonderful communities that had been well on their way to historic amity, it is crucial for each to try to understand what film the other is watching and reacting to."
Best preparation perhaps for participating intelligently in the "Passion" discusion: Dennis Praeger in beliefnet.com ( via discussion on the subject in LGF. See there linked also the equally meritorious Andrew Sullivan).
