Israel Has Hundreds Of Spies In Northern Iraq
I have no way of appraising this story that appears at bignewsnetwork but I find it of some interest and thus post it with the reservation that I am unable to confirm or deny what it says.
Israel has hundreds of intelligence agents in the Kurdish areas of Northern Iraq believed to be involved in the collection of information and monitoring of events in Iraq, Iran and Syria.
Israel is concerned the United States will not be successful in stabilising Iraq after the transfer of sovereignty on June 30, and the elections scheduled for January 2005.
Many of the agents in the region are believed to be Mossad operatives investigating Iran's nuclear capabilities.
The source of the report is the well-connected and internationally respected investigative journalist Seymour Hersh who has authored a report for The New Yorker magazine.
Hersh broke the news in an interview with CNN on Sunday.
According to the veteran reporter Israel has been active in recent months renewing previously long-standing associations with Iraq's Kurdish community

The Arabs have been saying that since the war started, but it's just being said to feed the propaganda machine and to blame Israel for the war in Iraq.

Even though I'm no great fan of Seymour Hersh; even a broken clock is right twice a day.
There may very well be some truth in it.
Israel would be remiss NOT to have spies in that area; and their association with the Kurds would serve them well.

Hundreds of Mossad agents in Kurdistan? No, the truth is there are THOUSANDS of Mossad agents in Kurdistan, plus thousands more under in or under every important bed in Iraq.

Hersch has it wrong. There aren't hundreds of Mossad agents in Kurdistan. There are THOUSANDS of Mossad agents. Plus thousands more agents in or under every important bed in Iraq.

That would explain the recent Turkish petulance towards Israel.

Israel had BETTER have thousands of spooks in Iraq and Iran. If the Iranian nuke facilities are not put out out of order soon, a la Osirak, we're in deep trouble.
