Dennis Ross - another enemy of Israel

Dennis Ross - another enemy of Israel

Anyone with spare time to plough through an 840-page tome should read Dennis Ross' recent book, "Missing Peace" (see complete reference at article's end). For the benefit of those who cannot spare the time, I hope to underscore selected aspects highlighted in the book, such as the complete culpability of the Egyptian terrorist Mohammed Abdel Rahman al-Husseini ("Yasser Arafat") in rejecting Barak's peace offer.

In the is present piece, however, I'd like to quote from the book those passages which, in my view, explain why Dennis Ross has turned out to be such a formidable enemy of Israel. The fact that he is, indeed, an enemy, emerges from almost every episode Ross recounts in his massive volume, such as his crucial role in preventing the release of Jonathan Pollard (I'll get to this sad aspect in a later piece).

Note: In the following text, page numbers indicated below refer to Dennis Ross' book cited at the end of this article.

Sketching his biography in the first chapter of "Missing Peace", Dennis Ross states:

I came of age politically in the 1960s, energized by the civil rights movement, mobilized by the agony of the Vietnam War... (p. 5)
The simple truth is that I could easily have stopped at this point. "Coming of age politically in the 1960" is all we need in the way of an explanation for an anti-Israel approach. Still, let us check out a few more nuggets:
I returned to graduate school at UCLA determined to build an expertise in international relations... For three years I was the teaching assistant of Malcolm Kerr, perhaps the leading scholar on politics in the Arab world at that time. [Kerr left UCLA to become the president of the American University in Beirut. - Ed]
...
In the Arab world, I saw less uniform hostility to Israel's existence than was portrayed in its media or ours. [The wars of 1948, 1956 and 1967 as well as the inter-bellum terrorism were not convincing enough? - Ed] But I also found a profound belief that a grave injustice had been done to the Palestinian people and that it must be corrected if anything was to change in the area. [A grave injustice done by WHOM? To be corrected at whose expense? - Ed]
...
From the time I was a graduate student at UCLA I believed that Israel's policy of building settlements in the West Bank and Gaza was wrong and misguided.
...
I was to emerge as the architect of our policy toward the Arab-Israeli conflict in the first Bush administration and the lead negotiator in the Arab-Israeli peace process throughout the Clinton presidency... (pp. 6-7)
In his opening line, Dennis Ross mentions that he grew up in Marin County, with a Jewish mother and a Catholic stepfather. Thus, Marin County is now famous for two of her sons: John Walker Lindh and Dennis Ross...

On a more serious note, I should add that one should not be surprised if a UCLA graduate who is influenced by Kerr and who cannot see the bottomless hatred of Jews and Israel in the Arab world turns out to be a sworn enemy of Israel. It figures and it fits.

But there is a deeper question that requires an answer. Papers produced by people like Douglas Feith ("A Mandate for Israel") and Netanyahu establish definitively that Israel has every right - by international law and otherwise - to the entire territory of former Palestine; how come neither this Marin County/UCLA grad is unaware of this fact? How come Israel's supporters refrain from alerting the world to the gross injustice against the Israel that is embedded in the "two-state solution"? Why are we so quiet???

Dennis Ross is most assuredly an enemy. Appreciate this being highlighted.

There is a complexity involved.

Enemy Dennis Ross has an ally, the Jewish Agency.

At some point in time, Ross, et al, must be addressed. Time is of the essence.

Joseph, you have ,once again, hit the nail on the head. I believe that this world has enough bleeding heart liberals and that includes Dennis Ross. He attempts to put on a good face, pollitically, however, he shows the typical face of the eurasians.

Regarding your article posted 12 November 2004 concering Jonathan Pollard and Bibi Netanyahu. So what's new? The US reneged on the deal with Israel in 1985/6 to release Pollard for his sins for the exchange of the Libyan wireless codes that controlled the lethal Libyan defence system on the shores of Tripoli and Benghazi. In turn Israel reneged on their deal with me, a fellow Jew/even set me up to go to jail to discredit me, for my part in securing the Libyan wireless codes from Sieman's AG Munich in 1985/6 at Mossad's behest. So why should Clinton not also renege on his deal with Bibi Netanyahu, who incidental still snubs my overtures to help secure Jonathan release from jail? Some friendly circle what? Or is the old Yiddisher saying true: "A Jew is the most anti-Semitic of all G-d's creatures"? However, what is still new but alas not News, is the deal that enabled the raid on Libya by the US Sixth Fleet (aircraftcarries USS Saratoga, Coral Sea and USS America and supportive craft including a nuke- sub) in March 1986 to curb terrorism: which indeed is still under the tightest of wraps. Maybe no one is prepared to tangle with Mossad like I did, not even to put to History Book to rights or to help bring 'Forbiden Yesterday'to the silver-screen, see www.forbiddenyesterday.co.uk .
