Is Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharons unilateral plan to uproot dozens of Jewish communities in Gush Katif and northern Samaria in trouble?

If Prime Minister Sharon were to listen to the people, the answer would be yes. An estimated 150,000 gathered outside Israels parliament building on Sunday evening for a mass demonstration that organizers dubbed the mother of all Israeli demonstrations.

Under the theme of Let the People Decide, the huge crowd waved placards and Israeli flags and listened to speeches from a long line of politicians and rabbis, all of whom berated the once right-wing leader for his about face on giving away Israeli land. MORE

Many Israelis have established a strong experience record in political demonstrations and related publicity stunts. Only when they take the same energy and drive to implement a modern government with district responsible politicans, will there be political stability.

To reply to Judy Lash Balint's question if the edict of expulsion is in trouble, the answer is "no" as per Judy Lash Balint's "If Prime Minister Sharon were to listen to the people,..". He didn't and changes should not be anticipated.

The "fabric of Israeli society" has been a half century torn rag. The loss of Jewish lands is just a battle. The war is really about a Jewish Israel. The fabric cannot be repaired by sewing or waving placards.

Prime Minister Sharon does not need a mandate or rights to relinquish Gaza, Samaria and Judea. He need political power. He possesses this and Effie Eitan knew this even before President Bush won his first election.
