Christian group gave $22m to Israel in 2004
The Chicago-based International Fellowship of
Christians and Jews said Monday that its organization had contributed more than NIS 100 million to Israel over the last year.
The $22 million in donations that the organization received, primarily donations from Evangelical Christian supporters of Israel in the US, went to welfare, immigration and absorption, as well as to security-related causes, the group said in a press release.
"During this period, when we are witness to ever-increasing anti-Semitism around the world, and to the growing strength of Islamic extremism, it is good to know that there is such significant support [of Israel] among Christian Evangelicals, who represent a third of the population of the United States," group president Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein said in a statement.
In the course of posting on IsraPundit, I have been in contact with many non-Jews, and I can attest to the strong support I find for Israel. If Israel knew to cultivate this support and turn it into political muscle, she could benefit from it a great deal. Unfortunately, Israel does little of that, and a great deal to discourage non-Jewish support for Israel: the consistent line of appeasement adopted by Sharon and his government is a good example.
