Andrei Markovits needs to leave his office and find out what has been going on and what is currently going on. He writes a lot but leaves out the important stuff.

It's "iffy" whether Communism was a serious contender for government in France in the immediate post WWII era. This was addressed by DeGaulle's Provisional Government and Eisenhower's military. Arrangements were made to eliminate Communists for the pending 4th French Republic. The socialists were bad enough.

Why was Joan Baez' name lumped together with Allen Gindberg and Ho Chi Minh? No distinctions?

Herbert Marcuse an "influential thinker"?! The world passed his thinking up. He wasn't the first to break the "taboo" against speaking critically re the Soviet Union. Jay Lovestone deserves this credit. Marcuse supported the Viet Cong. Thus, he and his school again became identified as anti-American. It also generated loyalty questions since Marcuse was no Joan Baez.

Discussing the weakening of union power and the Reagan administration is pedantics. The social security program destroyed the US unions. So much investment capital was drained away from the US that the companies sought the only survival option by relocating offshore. Every year for the last couple of decades 50 million Americans were -and still are- receiving 450 billion dollars in ss checks. This destroyed the job base and helped propell PR China and India to the forefront.

What "green" and "purple" challenge to Western social democracy?! The challenge is otherwise. Atlantic alliance labor is overpaid. European and American readers must fully understand that there are 5 billion workers in the undeveloped world, with the skills and positive additude to do ALL the world's manufacturing jobs at 20% of current costs.

The "left" is not in support of "economic justice". This is easily proven by an examination of their position on the inheritance laws. They love the gelt no less than the others. Blacks and certain other minorities are being used to support their ulterior political plans. The "left" also pushed the massive entry of women into the labor market. Although this assisted in driving down payroll costs, it also induced the relocation effort offshore.

US equilibrium will be obtained by a drastic reduction in the standard of living. Unfortunately or fortunately, this reduction represents goodness.

Ask three canine trainers, "What's the best dog training method?" and it's quite possible you'll get three different answers. You might also hear a bevy of buzzwords such as "purely positive" or "clicker training" sprinkled with terms borrowed from psychologists and behaviorists such as "operant conditioning."
