In politics perception is reality. This does not really relate to financial budget matters but rather general public perception of matters. The propagandists have this mastered.
Public opinion molding is a field of endeavor with all the attributes of an army. In practical terms regarding Israel in the world the various "media" vehicles are government sponsored enterprises or government influenced enterprises.
There are psychological principles used by the opinion molders.
Too many are comingling actual facts with the opinions held by various groups. The held opinions are "facts" as to the held opinion.
After 1973, the Arabs and other enemies placed more emphasis on propaganda and less on military matters in the war against the Jews. Both Israeli Jews and diaspora Jews failed to adjust to the changed battlefield.

The maximum effective range of weapons is not known by the general public. Israel's open society is antagonistic to apartheid (excepting Torah Jews' treatment by GOI) will never be known by those who read about Israel and apartheid in the same sentence.
I am absolutely convinced the State of Israel, via nominees, owns more than 1 seat on the New York Stock Exchange. From this I deduce there are some holding control over a Jewish Israel to ensure its disestablishment.

A fish story
Yesterday Media Backspin covered the death of a Palestinian girl that was originally blamed on Israel. The Reuters report cited by HR had the Israeli's 600 meters away from the school where the girl was killed.
The Chicago Tribune put the Israeli position 800 yards away.
Al Jazeerah had the soldiers 900 meters away.
My knowledge of firearms is limited, but the distance Israel was from the school should, by itself, given credence to the Israeli version.
Still despite placing the Israeli soldiers nearly a kilometer away from the girl Al-Jazeerah still "reported":
The NY Times reported the story here with the Israeli denial. It also included the item from the AP in the middle of this article without the Israeli denial. The Times referred to the killing of the girl again today but not the fact that a Palestinian had been arrested.
Big surprise, the UN blames Israel. (via IMRA)
UPDATE: Honest Reporting has a communique on the subject. And this begs the question: How often does the media promote the Palestinian/UN version of events regardless of the truth? In this case proof of the Israeli army's version came quickly, but that's not always so. Usually the false impression is the one that stays and no correction is made. (Although if Israel turns out to be wrong, the media don't let the matter die, as in the case of stretcher Israel claimed was a missile. When the Israeli army acknowledged that it might have been wrong it was widely reported.) This is one of the reasons that Israel comes out looking bad due to poor reporting.
Initially I credited the Media Backspin item to Honest Reporting.
