“How can you be a Jew and not be a Zionist?”

“How can you be a Jew and not be a Zionist?”

Our friend Cinnamon Stillwell asks some very uncomfortable questions in her latest article for the Jewish Press;

Suicidal Jews: When Will They Learn? Posted 2/2/2005
By CINNAMON STILLWELL

A remarkable thing happened in the Bay Area last month. San Francisco and Berkeley, two cities known for their anti-American, anti-Israel, and increasingly anti-Semitic character, hosted rallies against global terrorism. The mangled wreckage of the Jerusalem #19 bus, destroyed in a suicide bombing and displayed at both events, brought the reality of terrorism closer to home. It was a powerful reminder of what too many, especially in the Bay Area, still label acceptable.

One could be forgiven for assuming that these rallies had enjoyed the support of the Jewish community, but instead the opposite was true. An inordinate amount of disdain was directed at rally supporters, the bulk of it from Jews. Jewish organizations, individuals, and even rabbis did everything in their power to either ignore the rallies, urge people not to attend, or to condemn those who took part. But their hostility was misplaced, to say the least.

Uncomfortable Answers To Uncomfortable Questions

With a preface that Cinnamon Stillwell has my basic support; ...

"They" have converted. I am aware of Halacha. I am also aware that they left; they've converted. To refine my point, Spinoza was excommunicated but he was still a Jew as Halacha requires. The Jewish community with its Beth Din did not rely on the presence of the philosopher.

To challenge my point that "they" converted, means that our ranks are dependent on the Bela Kun's (Communist Prime Minister of Hungary, post WWI), Karl Marx's( known), Mier Vilner (Communist Party of Israel) Sholomit Aloni (still around) and many, many, many more.

Currently, in the States, "Jewish community" is a misnomer. It divides more than unifies. It was a blessing to read a few years ago that a Syracuse, NY synagogue "disinvited" Alan Dershowitz to some event.

"Jewish organizations" is a misnomer. Many are dangerous to the Jews in the US. I expect AIPAC to soon be required to register under "Fay Ray", the Foreign Agents Registeration Act. The National Council of Jewish Women with their abortion issues in the forfront are stirring up so much in the South, they are a danger. There are many, many, many more.

I'm guessing that Cinamon Stillwell is a product of American upbringing. A rally against terorism can indeed incite violence. What was to be accomplished by spending the money to rally in the San Francisco Bay area - and I'll add Sausalito and Oakland to the area?
"But victory comes with much planning." Proverbs 11:14

The war against terror is not an exclusive Jewish issue. Remember the 3 Baptist missionaries murdered in Yeman 3 years ago at the Baptish hospital? Were they memorialized at the SFO rally? Is coalition support considered for our truly small numbers?

As much as Cinnamon has my support - and it's a pleasure reading both her article and her name - especially since I've read about General Joseph "Vinegar Joe" Stillwell - I must mention that "peace in the Middle East" does not need the cessation of teaching hatred against Jews. Israel is being disestablished at this moment.

Sadly it seems that there are still Jews too frightened to associate
with the reality that confronts them.
All those years saying "Don't make a noise and maybe they won't notice us!"
which just led to tragedy, has not sunk in; that if they will not stand up for themselves nobody will.
Too frightened to defend themselves, too frightened to offend their enemy!
That is why some British Jews were able to insult a couple I know of, visiting London, that Israel was responsible for the bad name British Jews have in Britain.
In a manner, just like the Arabs, blaming others for the situation in which they find themselves.
No guts or gumption to confront the lies and injustice, hoping against hope that Superman or Spiderman, is just around the corner!
Scurrying away like cockroaches when an Israeli has the temerity to stand up for his rights.
But of course they will run to take advantage of the "Stent' available for their coronary problem or take advantage of the latest Israeli breakthrough which spots propensity to PTSD - post-traumatic stress disorder -
"Israeli researchers are the first to discover unique biomarkers in blood taken from patients treated in a hospital emergency room just hours after being exposed to a traumatic event"
(Terrorist Alert on Red????)

BobW,

Are all Americans hypocrits?
If American Jews with AIPAC are treated as Foreign Agents then surely the same reasoning should apply to that lovely WASP Saudi proxy J Baker and his law firm, and oh, all those ex Foggy Bottom agents collecting a "pension" from Saudi Arabia.

Why should all those "neocons=likudniks" controlling Bush's foreign policy be lumped together with the National Council of Jewish Women? Why should Jews be singled out when some Christian and secular organisations are doing exactly the same?
But of course that has been the diaspora experience of Jews for centuries - double standards!
For us outside the States looking in it has been an experience watching Mueller cosing up to the Muslims while instigating sting operations against the Jews trying to steal so many American technological secrets.
Hell, what a disgrace after all the technology developed in Israeli universities, not to speak of INTEL, Motorola and others in Israeli R&D centres, now being used to advantage by the USA.

Shalom Cynic,

You've got my 100% agreement. I'll double underlinethe word "should". It's a double standard. My points still hold. We must learn to live with it. It will never change.

I'm just reporting realpolitk.
