1. Resistance is growing

From Arutz 7, 2005_03_02:

Veteran Labor Zionists in 2nd Pro-Katif Convention

About 300 people, according to organizers, took part Wednesday evening in the second in a series of conventions of veteran labor Zionists opposed to the government's Disengagement Plan. The convention took place in Kfar Bilu, near Rechovot in the south, and attracted members of many kibbutzim and moshavim (agricultural communities).

Gideon Lizhinsky, one of the organizers of the gathering and a resident of Kfar Bilu himself, told Arutz-7 Radio that the attendees committed to recruiting thousands more to, as he put it, "stop the expulsion with our bodies" on the day the order is given.

Lizhinsky emphasized that, unlike the religious Right, he has no hesitation to call for refusal by IDF soldiers to carry out the evacuation orders. "It is forbidden to obey an order that is undemocratic, immoral and anti-Zionist. What will the soldier say - 'I was just following orders'?"

2. The closest thing to blood libel

From JPost:

Elon slams police chief for lie about death edict National Union leader Benny Elon slammed police chief Moshe Karadi in the Knesset on Wednesday, calling him a "liar," for claiming that he had intelligence information on the existence of a Halachic ruling that would give approval for settlers to harm or shoot non-Jewish security personnel who take part in the evacuation. Elon demanded that Karadi publish an apology.

"It is not imaginable that grave incitement could be published against the religious and land of Israel believing public without publishing the intelligence information or revealing the rabbi who wrote the things," Elon said in the Knesset.

"Liar, liar, liar," Elon said of Karadi, toughing off an uproar among MKs.

He said the publication had apparently been made to serve the "incitement of [Prime Minister Ariel] Sharon's office." Elon called on Justice Minister Tzippi Livni to also take action against inciters against the right.

3. The ugly face of raw tyranny

From JPost, 2005_03_02:

PM won't honor Likud decision for referendum

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon does not intend to honor the decision expected to be accepted Thursday in the Likud Central Committee, which will call for the members of the party to support a Knesset vote in favor of a national referendum on disengagement from Gaza and the northern West Bank, Army Radio reported.

Sharon supported the version of the decision that discusses a referendum Tuesday night, however sources close to the prime minister clarified Wednesday morning that he only did so because he had no choice and because in his estimation his proposal against a referendum would have been defeated in the Central Committee.

Minister-without-portfolio MK Tzahi Hanegbi, head of the Likud Central Committee, told Army Radio Wednesday morning that Sharon has no reason to worry,

"The prime minister says: Why do I need to get into a confrontation right now with the majority of central committee members, most of the ministers, and a majority of the Knesset? In any case, there is no chance of a parliamentary majority for a referendum. The movement will decide what it decides- there is not now and won't be a majority in the Knesset."

4. Likud to Vote for Referendum Tonight

From Arutz7:

The Likud Central Committee is expected to support a referendum on the disengagement tonight. If Shas then follows suit, it will be up to the populace to decide whether Gush Katif remains Israeli.

As in the past, the party's Central Committee does not side with Prime Minister Sharon, who has strongly opposed a referendum ever since the idea was broached a year ago. It is not yet clear, however, if Sharon will ignore the Committee's decision, as he has done in the past.

Note: "Resistance News" is a daily column devoted to news about the Jewish resistance to Sharon's expulsion and resettlement plan. Let it not be said that IsraPundit observed the ethnic-cleansing of Jews in Yesha and reacted with indifference.
