Delenda est UN - The UN must be destroyed!

Delenda est UN - The UN must be destroyed!

In an article concerning the so called "U.N. Human Rights Commission", YNet writes today [2005_03_17] as follows:

For decades, observers inside and outside the Jewish community have said the United Nations is an organization that has fallen short in carrying out the mission stated in its charter, that it has failed to promote peace and even tolerated terror.

They point to its costly and bloated bureaucracy. They cite the General Assembly’s built-in Arab-led majority, which could probably
draft a resolution stating that the world is square and have it pass by a vote of something like 94-4, with some European states abstaining.

And yet, year after year, representatives of B’nai B’rith and other Jewish organizations go to Geneva to witness one of the UN’s most offensive and discouraging exercises: the meetings of the Human Rights Commission, which opens its deliberations this week.

In the past, this body has been chaired by serial violators of human rights like Libya, and staffed by others like Sudan and Cuba. Invariably, Israel is placed in the dock in the court of public opinion, tried and impugned by an unsavory coalition of extreme leftists and rightists, eager to divert attention from real human rights abuses by scapegoating a free democracy, the world’s only Jewish state.

So why do we bother going?

We go because the prestige that the United Nations and its Commissions enjoy is impossible to ignore. In Europe, where the belief in the value of international legal structures and institutions is virtually sacrosanct, we cannot afford to remain silent when Israel is ritualistically and unjustly condemned.

Well, this is precisely the point. Israel's supporters, and, in fact, anyone who take democracy and human rights seriously, must work to discredit the UN at every turn.

If we set the destruction of the UN as a goal, achieving it should not be to hard - thanks to the UN itself. All we need to do is point out time and again items like UNSCAM, UNRWA, Rwanda and the African sex scandals.

And while I mention Rwanda, following is comment from Romeo Dallaire, the Canadian who was appointed by the UN as commander during the Rwanda massacre:

[Maurice Baril] was the secretary-general's military adviser in an organization swamped and sinking under the dead weight of useless political sinecures, indifference and procrastination. Between the buildup of the former-Yugoslavia mission, the Somalia debacle and the near-total absence of funds and support from the UN Fifth (financial and budget) Committee, UNAMIR [UN assistance mission for Rwanda], ended up being just another catastrophic failure that was simply getting worse.

This quotation is taken from p. 355 of:

Dallaire, Romeo. Shake hands with the devil. Random House of Canada, 2003.

Recently, I attended one of Dallaire's lectures at Carleton University, Ottawa, and to my amazement, he launched into a long speech defending the UN. I will address this issue at a later article. For the moment, I underscore once again Dallaire's assessment of the UN as "an organization swamped and sinking under the dead weight of useless political sinecures, indifference and procrastination."

There's no question the UN does not meet the requirements of its charter. This is because the UN membership has changed since the UN founding after WWII.

The so-called "Jewish community" must address the more fundamental issues and not costly and bloated bureaucracies. Are there any "Jewish community" policy statements on nationalism? After all, many of the new UN members are new states created in the wave of post WWII nationalism. Many of these new states are Arab.

The UN's General Assembly has already passed "world is square" type resolutions. Recall "Zionism is a form of racism."(Mexico supported this.) and "The oceans are the common heritage of mankind" (restricted US companies).

The problem is not the UN-there was even a prior organization; the League of Nations. Look closer at organizations like the mentioned B'nai B'rith.

B'nai B'rith supports the Road Map and a pending new Arab state "Palestine".

B'nai B'rith recognizes Tel Aviv and not Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

This same organization is alligned against President Bush's plans for changing the Social Security program.

Continue through the topics, both domestic and international, and it becomes even clearer that national organizations identified as "Jewish" are on the opposite side of the Bush camp. B'nai B'rith's support of federally subsidized housing for seniors might be neutral enough. Rent control in New York City? Tax deductability for mortgage interest? Take a closer look at B'nai B'rith's Medicare and MedicAid policy positions. Repeat James Baker's infamous quote: "F*** the Jews, they don't vote for us anyway.". Glance at a UN NGO chart.

The organization, B'nai B'rith, along with their position on prescription medicines in America is more of a threat to a Jewish Israel than Cuba.

Remember, Leon Blum, Rosa Luxemberg, Louis Brandise, George Soros, Ruth Batar-Ginsberg and Senator Joseph Lieberman are all Jewish.

Israel is "ritualistically and unjustly condemned" at the UN. Syria and Cuba's condemnations are assigned little value re their positions on Israel. B'nai B'rith's positions are viewed differently.

Now, consider why UNSCAM and the African sex scandals (Dyncorp, et al) are quietly removed from the public arena.

More attention is needed to look at B'nai B'rith and what constitutes the "Jewish community" than looking at a diversion such as Cuba.
