Addendum to Ted's posts re Condi

The statements against Israel, which Condi ("Colin Powell, only worse") keeps spewing, should be noted carefully. Ted has posted two important pieces on the topic (1 and 2); please add this citation from WaPo to your file:

Rice denied reports from Israeli officials -- and some U.S. officials -- that the Bush administration had struck an arrangement with Israel that would allow for some settlement growth in Palestinian areas. Israeli officials had said that the administration would allow for growth within settlements as long as additional housing units did not exceed existing construction lines. The U.S.-backed "road map" plan for peace calls for Israel to freeze settlement growth.

Rice said the "only commitment or assurance" was made last April, when Bush announced that because of "new realities on the ground" -- existing settlements in Palestinian areas -- Israel could expect to retain some settlements as part of a final peace deal. She said that since then the United States has asked Israel for more detail on its settlement activity because "there is so much information, misinformation . . . that the picture was just too confusing."

After the interview, Rice called a reporter twice to expand on her remarks on the administration's settlement policy. The administration has had "discussions about steps toward a settlement freeze," she said in one of the phone calls. "But we've never reached closure on that. It's complicated."

It is the first concerete step to deny Jerusalem to Israel. If one wonders why Israel is the only country in the world where an American Embassy is not in place then one should look at the grand scheme.

I have to say that George Bush and his team from State are showing their true colors. President Bush may have started out 'looking' as though he were a friend of Israel but this is proof he is no friend. Israel was pushed right into the corner and Bush helped.

I pray every republican who claims to be a supporter of Israel drops their partisanship and steps to the plate. The plate being the gates of the White House!

from debka. take note of last paragraph
US secretary Rice stepped squarely into the middle of the argument over US ambassador Kurtzer’s interpretation of the April 2004 Bush commitment to Sharon on the future of West Bank settlements.

She told the Washington Post that the only commitment between US and Israel at this time is “that there has been a change in circumstances on the ground, large population centers have grown up and that will need to be taken into account in a final status agreement, but that that…agreement has to be negotiated. …That’s it. “

To the LA Times, Rice sharply criticized Israel’s plan to add 3,500 housing units to Maale Adummim east of Jerusalem as “at odds with American policy.” She said ME peace effort at “fragile” stage and Abbas needs help.

She expected Israel to be careful about anything including settlements and barrier route that could affect peace process. The concern is over where Maaleh Adummim is, around Jerusalem.

In closing. If we wonder why the media is so harsh on Israel we must only look to the top. For Rice to do an interview at the 'LA Times' of all rags who despise Israel is very telling indeed. Reaction from AP: Rice tells LA Times that Israel`s plan to expand Ma`aleh Adumim in West Bank is `at odds with American policy` (AP) March 25

The only damage control now is what our supporters do for the Jewish People and their tiny beloved country. And it can be done. It must be done.

Damage control isn't enough. What first of all can and must be done is that the Israelis themselves must wake up and come to their senses, like the people in Georgia, Ukraine and Kyrgysztan. If the Jews continue to let their future and existence be determined by political and diplomatic careerists in Washington DC and elsewhere, their days will be numbered, and no quantity of outside supporters will make any difference.

The problem is not to stop the Arab suicide bombers but to stop their own suicide politicians and Western diplomats who focus on their income, career and legacy only.
