The Prime minister of Corruption

The Prime minister of Corruption

By Prof. Paul Eidelberg

Sensible Jews are understandably preoccupied with the dangers inherent in policy of Disengagement, the policy Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has foisted on the State of Israel.

The term “Disengagement” is a subterfuge and makes liars of those who endorse this policy. Indeed, mendacity is characteristic of this policy’s prime mover, Ariel Sharon, the greatest con man to have become Israel’s prime minister.

Disengagement involves nothing less than (a) Israel’s retreat or withdrawal from Jewish land, beginning with 23 communities in Gaza and northern Samaria, but extending, eventually, to all of Judea and Samaria, including eastern Jerusalem; (b) expulsion or deportation of the 250,000 Jews living on this land; and (c) the surrender of this land to the PLO-Palestinian Authority. The term “Disengagement” is therefore intended to deceive the public in order to facilitate PLO-empowerment and the creation of an Arab Palestinian state. The establishment of such a state may readily lead to the disestablishment of Israel.

And so critics understandably focus the public’s attention on the strategic consequences of Disengagement. Overlooked is how this policy has corrupted public morality, especially of Israeli youth, and for this corruption no one is more culpable than Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

Who does not know that “Disengagement” has long been the policy of the Labor Party? Who does not know that Mr. Sharon campaigned against that policy in the January 2003 election? Who does not know that an overwhelming majority of the public rejected that policy—indeed, gave the Likud Party a two-to-one margin of victory over Labor, something unprecedented in Israel’s history?

Any yet, lo and behold, less than a year later, Mr. Sharon zigzagged and adopted that devious policy! He thereby set an example to the nation and its youth of treachery. He cheated those who voted for him and his Likud Party, and, by so doing, he has made cheating respectable in the Land of Israel.

Note well that the words and behavior of a prime minister are carefully perused and disseminated by the mass media. What he says and does has more influence on the public and on Israeli youth than any other public official.

When Prime Minister Sharon said he would abide by the outcome of the Likud referendum on Disengagement, and then reneged on his promise, he set an example of cynicism, especially among impressionable youth—the most likely to regard him as a role model.

When Mr. Sharon releases Arab terrorists, including murderers, he undermines the public’s sense of justice, especially of youth. By releasing murderers he trashes the sanctity of life and corrupts our youth.

When Mr. Sharon gives orders to expel Jews from their homes in Gaza, such callousness erodes kindness and concern for others, which cannot but dehumanize youth.

When Mr. Sharon, with the most powerful military force in the Middle East, appeases or retreats from Arab terrorists, he presents an example of abysmal cowardice, which cannot but foster selfishness among youth and undermine their dedication to the common good.

When Mr. Sharon sends his foreign minister to Egypt, whose state-controlled media vilifies Jews and Israel, he thereby displays a lack of honor, which cannot but debase Israeli youth.

Mr. Sharon is indeed the prime minister of corruption in Israel. What is remarkable is that in a recent poll, 64 percent of the public recognized that he is corrupt. However, in that same poll 80 percent of the public regarded him as a “leader”! Yes, Mr. Sharon is indeed a leader—of the corruption to which this country has succumbed, especially since he became its prime minister four years ago.

Mr. Sharon’s policy of Disengagement is the quintessence of this corruption. The mere fact that even rabbis advocate a national referendum on Disengagement is indicative of the utter degradation to which Sharon has brought this pathetic country.

For what is such a referendum about? To vote for or against Disengagement is to vote for or against Israel’s existence. Has ever a nation conducted a plebiscite on whether or not to commit national suicide?

{Please excuse my absence from posting - PE has published important articles over the last month that I've been unable to bring forward to the site due critical personal family issues. I've held these in my archive and hope to post these over time. We all know "what's happening" of course, but while here on site it may be 'preaching to the choir', it's important we keep a linked record, 'for posterity' - at the least. Tib.}

The situation defies logic. It's really very frightening. They accuse us of civil war and destroying the country, but the truth is that they're projecting. They are destroying the country and we must work hard for a miracle.

This reminds me of a cynical, apparently "pro-Israel" German, who insulted me by saying many years ago,

"Let the Jews have their own State, -- where they can cheat each other!"

May Sharon-Haman and his accomplices suffer the fate that they are preparing for Mordechai! Miracles have happened in these days, and dictators have fallen. Happy Purim!

Judea for Jews! -- No Arab Trojan-Horse State in Israel's heartland!
-- Ban Arabs from Israel, as long as Arabia and Jordan ban Jews! --
