Waqf al-Andalus
Waqf al-Andalus
Patrick D. O'Brien
In 711 CE, the Umayyad Caliph al-Walid gave permission to the Arab governer of North Africa, Musa ibn Nusair, to attack Spain, which was seen as a prime target for jihad. Musa decided to send the great Berber warrior general, Tariq ibn Ziyad, leading a force of approximately 12,000 Berber and Arab soldiers to take Spain in the holy conquest of Qur'an and sword. In early July, they crossed into Europe through the strait of Gibraltar—the Europeanized word for Jabal-al-Tarik, which means "the hill of Tarik." Gebel-al-Tarik means "Rock of Tarik."
It was over within four years, as the vast majority of Spanish land fell to the hordes of Allah's soldiers and became dar al-Islam. The Muslim imperialists named Spain al-Andulus, perhaps mistakenly believing they had conquered the land of the Vandals instead of the land of the Visigoths. The Spaniards called them Moriscos. Al-Andulus was a big prize in the eternally expansionist program of Islam, and it soon became the pinnacle of Islamic civilization in the West. That's how it stayed for more than 700 years until the equally long Reconquista (reconquest) culminated in Ferdinand and Isabella handing the remaining Muslim population its walking papers, along with Spain's Jews. The last Muslims of al-Andalus, in Granada, were finally impelled to flee en masse to Morocco, with the Spanish Inquisition (insert Monty Python joke here) in hot pursuit, thus making Spain European once again. This is an event whose bitter memory has retained all of its vivid intensity in the Muslim world to this day.
According to a recent article in the Saudi Gazette, the supposed descendants of the expelled Morisco immigrants still observe the event with melodrama each year. And they are also demanding an apology from Spain's King Juan Carlos.
Today, up to four million grandsons of the Moriscos are living in North African countries like Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.
They used to commemorate every year these painful memories to keep the agonies of their forebears vivid, Moroccan historian Bin Azouz Hakim, a specialist in the history of the Moriscos, told IslamOnline.net Sunday.
Morsicos's descendants in Morocco, who are concentrated in cities like Tangier, Fes, Marrakesh and Rabat, mark every year the fall of Granada and Al-Andalus, which was regained in 1492 by Spanish troops in the long process known as the Reconquista under the Catholic monarchs Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon.
In 2002, Hakim sent a message, inked by an elite of Moriscos, to Spanish King Juan Carlos asking for a public apology to the descendants.
The message, however, fell on deaf ears.
Hakim; nevertheless, sent another message to the king, asking him to explain why he rejected his call while he apologized to the Jews in a visit to Israel in 1992 for the mass exodus from Al-Andalus.
"I think because we don't have a powerful lobby like the Jews, who make the best use of the past to get financial gains," Hakim said.
If I had a buck for every half-baked, paranoid Muslim conspiracy theory about the Jews I come across, I'd be a wealthy kafir...
In any event, it is clear that Muslims have not forgotten that, through the imperialistic holy war of jihad, they were once masters of a rather sizeable portion of the civilized world.
When Islamic killers slaughtered 191 innocent Spaniards in Madrid one year ago, it was ostensibly provoked by the Aznar administration's decision to send Spanish troops into Iraq as part of the U.S.-led coalition (or the Crusaders, as the mujahideen like to call them). And that's fair in the jihad playbook. But that horrific terror attack, which still chills us, infuriates us, and makes ones eyes water up, was also about something less temporal and more profound. It's about the Islamic legal concept of waqf.
In Arabic, waqf can literally mean prevention, restraint, or retention. In Islam, a waqf is any property that has been given for the benefit of Muslims, in perpetuity, and to please God. It is essentially making land, or other material, God's property, not to be taken back by anyone. It is an important part of shari'ah law, and has several purposes. In our discussion, we are concerned with its ramifications in connection with land—particularly Spanish land.
In Islam, the war of jihad is holy (although it is not seen as war by Muslims) because it is for the purpose of expanding God's domain on Earth. It is commanded of the faithful, and it is an honor as well as a duty. According to the shari'ah, territories which are gained through jihad become waqf, and cannot thereafter be given up. They become, literally, an inseverable part of God's dominion, for the sole welfare of the ummah (the Muslim community). If territories acquired by Islam are taken by conquering infidels, they must be retaken in jihad—today, tomorrow, sooner or later. It is a religious obligation. This is because what belongs to God cannot be taken from those who are on Earth to serve Him. For this reason, Israel will never have peace with Muslims so long as Islam remains in its current, unreformed state. When Khalifah Omar took Jerusalem in 638 CE, he made Israel an Islamic waqf. Indeed, in their charter, Hamas demonstrates how their right to destroy Israel is simply an obligation to God through the principle of waqf:
- Israel will rise and will remain erect until eliminated by Islam... [Introduction]
- Palestine is an Islamic Waqf throughout all generations and to the Day of Resurrection. [Article 11]
- …the liberation of Palestine is an individual duty binding on all Muslims everywhere. [Article 13]
- There is no solution to the Palestinian problem except by Jihad. [Article 13]
- In order to face the theft of Palestine by the Jews, we have no escape from raising the banner of Jihad. [Article 15]
- When our enemies usurp some Islamic lands, Jihad becomes a duty binding on all Muslims. [Article 15]
These are not the aberrant words of extremists. They are the prescriptions of mainstream Islam, derived from the Qur'an and sunnah. In the triumphalist creed of Islam, the proprietary concerns of the rest of the world are secondary to the Muslims' mission from God. This includes land upon which a nation was legitimately established by an indigenous people. Once it's taken in the conquest of jihad, it's gone, and it's gone for good. The original inhabitants may live there if they are monotheists, but only in submission to Islamic law. Land which was once part of the greater Moslemah may once again fall back into the hands of the original population, but eventually the mujahideen will rise again to reclaim it. We are reminded of this today in the Balkans. Allah plays for keeps.
When the holy warriors of the Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades killed scores of unarmed and unsuspecting Spanish mothers, sons, kids, and the elderly in cold blood on 3/11, it was a legitimate response&—as per shari'ah—to Spain's involvement in a war against Islam. It was made all the more sweet for the mujahideen because of the humiliating, burning memory of la reconquista. That the ummah can be subject to the same fate as any infidel in being expelled from a colonized land is a painful blow to the arrogant, yet fragile, Muslim psyche. And Islam provides ample recourse for punishing retribution in God's name.
The Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades stated explicitly that their attacks on Spain were revenge for the loss of al-Andalus in 1492. Their statement read, in part: "This is part of settling old accounts with Spain, the crusader, and America's ally in its war against Islam.'' Osama "Papa Jihad" bin Laden has spoken of the "tragedy of al-Andalus" and the obligation of Muslims to reconquer the erstwhile Islamic colony on the Iberian Peninsula.
The Moriscos are active again in al-Andulus. They want their waqf, their lost glory, and their rightful place as the masters of the kuffar, who are fit only to live there as dhimmis. Regretttably, in the wake of that horrible, cowardly attack on four trains in Madrid last year, Spaniards got out the dhimmi vote and elected a leftist, appeasenik president who gave the mujahideen exactly what they demanded. And instead of making Spaniards safer, it has only emboldened the holy warriors to conspire for more bloodshed. There was the arrest of 18 Muslims from the "Martyrs for Morocco" group over their plot to blow up Madrid's National Court. There were well over 100 detentions of suspected Islamic terrorists in Spain from March 11 to December 31, 2004. A plot to bomb the Real Madrid football stadium was foiled.
Islam is creeping back into Europe to claim its own and to expand the dar al-Islam even further this time. Eurabia is rising. The jihad that was conceived by a deranged miscreant in the hinterland of the Arabian Peninsula 1400 years ago is returning to seize the glory promised to the faithful by God. It's on the streets of Amsterdam, in the mosques of London and Berlin, and in the hills of Serbia. While Islam's useful idiots in the West are busily apologizing for the plainly expansionist and homicidal agenda of jihad, the holy warriors plan more 9/11s and 3/11s. Spain is Españ:a, and not al-Andalus. It is better for it. As much as I was dismayed to see Zapatero voted in last year, I'm not willing to accept that Spaniards are ready to relinquish their heritage, their identity, their culture, and their land to an avaricious death cult that resorts to mass murder in God's name when it doesn't get its way. Those 191 good people didn't die so that could happen.

Even with Islam's current unreformed state [status], why could not a Jewish Israel still have peace with them? China has a Muslim area (Xinjiang Province) and there is peace. China kills enemies, both foreign and domestic. The US does also.Singapore has a substantial Muslim population but the place is at peace and safe. The world's second largest Muslim population is in India and the Muslims are not an existential threat. The North African states surpress Islamic law. It is the divided Israel generating the dangers other countries properly handle.
Europe's complexion change toward Islam isn't by conquest but by Europe's pay as you go pension plans. Workers are needed for the programs and Europe's negative Anglo birthrate requires the importation of Muslims. From a 2 generational view, Anglo Europe is winning because the pension checks are in the mail.
Charles Martel knew all about al Andulus and acted accordingly. If Paris was worth a Mass later on, France and the Papal States resolved the Islamic danger well before PR China arrived on the scene. Only a Yevsektzia Israel would get involved in accepting an apology for Spain's Edict of Expulsion.
Let's not forget Gilbratar is still under occupation. Apparently the Court of St James won't send an apology to Madrid or the Wafq.

I still believe that unless there are MASSIVE reforms to Islam, there will only be a state of continual war between it and the Infidels.
A war that the pampered, hedonites of the west will always deny.
THe problem with this conflict is that it has been going on in stop/start ctcles for some 1400 years.
If anything the STOPS are more dangerous. During those periods we forget the history and are "surprised" when the brutalities and mayhem reappear.
You can put the blame squarely on western education for this. BY the time we wake up from this deep Rip-van-Winkle sleep , Dar al Islam has increased substantially its real estate and it is too late.
If the idiotarians powers of Europe had understood that Islam will always be in a state of war against the infidel, Europe would not be heading towards Eurabia .
I would say that BOb's peaceful coexistence Islamic communities have not yet been taken over by Saudi Wahhabism, but i'm sure they're working on that right now.

It has be said that muslims should not make peace with Jews and Christians when Muslims have the upper hand. This is why there is realative peace in some areas. As BobW said: "China kills enemies, both foreign and domestic." But there are still Jihadists in China, the US, Singapore and else where. The realative peace exists because Muslims don't have the upper hand. This is why Israel won't have peace. You withdrew from Lebanon, signed on to Oslo (without anything concrete in return), are talking of forcing further unilateral withdrawls, etc., and the result is that the Muslims think they have the upper hand. This is why Arrafat told Israel to "go to hell" when they offered him almost everything he wanted. There will be no peace until Israel is allowed to defeat the Arabs so completely that even they understand that they have lost. Despite all of Israel's military successes, it has never enjoyed such a victory. The west has always stepped in to prevent it. It must be the Arabs that sue for peace if there is to be a real peace.
Now, there is some hope if real democracy takes hold in the Arab world, because it will allow other view points to take hold and grow. But without real democracy, where individual rights are protected there can be no reform in Islam. And even if democracy takes hold, it will be a long time before reformers become strong enough to make a difference.
For now Israelis should remember, Arabs may want your money, they want your land, but they want you dead.

In this world, at this time, there is a place for diplomacy; however, that would be with people who can reason. Muslims, in the most part, can not be reasonable. In their chaotic mind, there is no way but through Islam. These people multiply like fleas on a dog, purposly. Their goal is to totally gain control of all lands, whether by population or by war and terrorism. There is no stopping them short of war. While understanding that France, Germany, Spain and a few other Eurasians would join in such endeavor, many other countries see the light. War in this magnatude would be devestating financially; however, not declaring war to stop this infestation, would be more so. If one has a disease, you must take your medicine and get rid of it. I don't like war because I've been there. Sacrifices by all, must be made. With some exceptions, terrorist Muslims must be defeated, if not for us, but for our offspring. Israel, for the most part, has the support of the Christian community. Let's set aside politics, unite, and get rid of this cancer.
