Jerusalem police late Sunday prevented a group of suspected far-right activists from blocking traffic on the main Jerusalem-Tel Aviv highway, in the latest attempt of civil disobedience against the planned withdrawal from Gaza, police said.
The activists had set several tires on fire on the highway, near the turnoff for the Jerusalem suburb of Motza, but then fled the scene after police arrived.
Several other tires were found nearby, and were confiscated by police.
Over the last several months, far-right activists have been blocking major highways nationwide in protest over this summer's planned unilateral withdrawal from Gaza and four isolated northern West Bank settlements.
