The Pope

The Pope

What's an atheist doing writing about the Pope? Why, speaking the truth, that's what.

I would have kept quiet, were it not that I have been so thoroughly inundated with talk about His Greatness; I almost started believing it myself. So a reminder or two may be in place here, for the sake of Truth.

Reminder #1: The Pope and the liberation of Iraq

About the war to liberate Iraq, the Pope had this to say, according to Catholic News, 24 Mar 2003:

Pope says Iraq war threatens humanity

See update at article's end.

Pope John Paul, in his first public comment on the outbreak of hostilities in Iraq, said on Saturday that the war threatens the whole of humanity, and that weapons could never solve mankind's problems.

"When war, like the one now in Iraq, threatens the fate of humanity, it is even more urgent for us to proclaim, with a firm and decisive voice, that only peace is the way of building a more just and caring society," he said.

The Pope, in a speech to employees of Catholic television station Telepace, added: "Violence and weapons can never resolve the problems of man." [How about WW II? - Ed]

The Pope led the Vatican in a diplomatic campaign to avert war, putting the Holy See on a collision course with Washington and its backers in the Iraq campaign.

In my book, you get no points for objecting to the liberation of Iraq.

Anyone interested in a thorough review of the Pope and the Iraq war, can review the 1.6 million hits that come up when a google search is conducted under "pope+iraq+war".

Incidentally, the Pope also opposed the first Gulf War - he never did learn, did he?

Reminder #2: The Pope and the Egyptian-born terrorist al Husseini ("Arafat")

It was a great day in November 2004 when the news about the rat's death was verified at last. But the Catholic World News (CWN) informed the world:

Pope, Vatican mourn Arafat

In a telegram to Rawhi Fattuh, the president of the Palestinian legislative council, Pope John Paul II mentioned his "sadness at the passing" of Arafat, and was "entrusting his soul into the hands of the almighty and merciful God."

Anyone who expects me to mourn the man who mourned the Egyptian-born terrorist has a long wait ahead of him.

In case we forgot about the close link between the Pope and the terrorist, CWN adds:

Arafat met with Pope John Paul II on 10 separate occasions, including 8 visits to the Vatican. Their first meeting was in September 1982; the most recent was in October 2001. During one such encounter, in February 1999, Arafar issued an invitation for the Pope to visit Bethlehem during the Jubilee Year; the Pontiff accepted that invitation, and stopped at Bethlehem during his pilgrimage to the Holy Land in March 2000.

For a thorough analysis of the Pope and the Terrorist, why not check out the 250,000 hits that come up when one googles "pope+arafat".

Incidentally, the Pope also met with Kurt Waldheim, even after Waldheim's WW II record was revealed.

Update:

In her comment, Linda reminded us of the Vatican's condemnation of Israel for the removal of the terrorist Yassin. Since we aim to document each statement made, here is the link confirming Linda's statement. On Monday, March 22, 2004, the day IDF remove the terrorist Yassin, Catholic World News reported:

Vatican condemns killing of Hamas leader

Vatican, Mar. 22, 2004 (CWNews.com) - The Vatican has condemned the killing of Hamas leader Ahmed Yassin, saying that such assassinations are "unjustifiable in any state of law."

Whether the Pope ends up in heaven is not for me to determine, but in my book, he most definitely ends up in the page labelled "Hypocrites International".

I guess it takes an atheist!!! I have been searching for one of my Christian brethren to speak up in the same way but all is silent...I could give a dozen Scriptural references in which he violated God's Word but suffice to say any man who allows himself to be worshipped is attempting to usurp God's place as He is the only one worthy of worship and He is the ONLY one who can be called Holy Father. Prophetically speaking, he has laid the groundwork for the coming one world religion the Bible predicts. He and arafat can spend eternity together regretting "touching the apple of God's eye".

The Vatican's specific and collective support for and collusion with the Nazis is certainly not relevant to this Pope. John Paul saved Jews in WWII. Whoever saves one life is as if he's saved the entire world.

However, there was a sharp distinction between the Pope's overall positive attitude towards the Jewish people and their religion versus his antagonism against the Jewish State in the land of Israel.

Read through this post at Jihad Watch to refresh your memories.

What can I say?! Goodbye and good luck!

Judea for Jews! -- No Arab Trojan-Horse State in Israel's heartland!
-- Ban Arabs from Israel, as long as Arabia and Jordan ban Jews! --

Well, Doctor/Judge Moziani, those are nice thoughts but what do they have to do with this topic?

Also, Solomon was very wise but there weren't any popes around in his day (not even Carmelitta). Verse 4 in chapter 9 actually says:

"For whoever is joined to all the living has hope, for concerning a live dog [it is said that] he is better than a dead lion."

It must be remembered that Hitlerīs anti-semitism emerged out of the catholicism of Bavaria, even though there were other racist currents involved also. The catholic church chose a man from a nation in whose country took place the Holocaust. At that time Pope Pius was involved in a deal with the Nazis to protect Vatican interests. It was under that pope that this man rose to power, from that country, with that background. In 1939 he was in his second year of University...perhaps there is a continuity here leading to his obvious dislike of Israel. Poland was a very anti-Semitic country. In any case have a close look at his successor as well.

I thought you might be interested in reading my article, "Pope Dead; Give Israel and the Jews Their Property," calling on the Catholic Church to open up the Vatican vaults and return all the stolen Jewish property that they have confiscated over the centuries - to honor the memory of the "good" relations Pope John Paul II fostered.

Thanks, Ariel.

Another must-read article, about waking us Jews up to what the Vatican is, can be found at Israel Insider: The Vatican and its Friends, By Shelomo Alfassa. This article is essentially about the Vatican and church today in general, not specifically about John Paul.
