The view from the Free Muslims vantage point
Last Sunday [2005_05_14], Free Muslims launched a rally in Washington DC against Islamic terorism and extremism. However noble the cause, the rally was so sparsely attended, that I considered it too insignificant politically for me to comment on it. But Free Muslims, in a follow-up e-mail, considered the rally to have been a success, and I'd like you to know why they think so - see their e-mail below. Free Muslims also point to a short WaPo video clip, one that underscores the sparse (almost non-existent) public participation. If anything, the rally went a long way towards confirming that most (if not virtually all) the Muslims in the US do NOT oppose terrrorism and extremism. Which is what I have suspected for some time.
Free Muslims e-mail
The rally was a success because of the quality of the speakers and because our message was carried across the world. Not only was the event covered by major American media outlets but also by Al-Jazeerah and Al-Arabia, the two largest media outlets in the Arab and Muslim world.
We have received hundreds of e-mails from the Arab world expressing support for our efforts and from those who hate our efforts. That is fine with us as long as our message of tolerance, non-violence, separation of religion and politics, equality for women and democracy is heard.

I agree with you Joseph. We on the pro-Jewish side above all have to tell the truth, address reality and whatever reality throws up we have to take it on board. The reality here is that hardly anybody turned up. Their references to the media and e-mails is a smokescreen.
