See note at article's end.

The orange background symbolizes my personal solidarity with the Jewish pioneers of Yesha.

1. The Dictator shuns IDF's advice

Reuters reports:

Israeli officers want Gaza pullout delay - source

Some top Israeli army officers want to delay a withdrawal from the Gaza Strip for up to six months due to slow preparations and fears over the strength of Palestinian militants, a senior security source said on Sunday.

But Prime Minister Ariel Sharon vowed the pullout would start on schedule in mid-August, as he arrived in New York to rally support from U.S. Jewish leaders for removing settlements from the occupied territory.

2. Sharon welcomed in NY

From al-Ha'aretz:

Sharon heckled during address to U.S. Jews

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was heckled while delivering a speech to Jewish leaders in New York Sunday defending his Gaza disengagement plan.

As he spoke, several protesters stood up in the audience at Baruch College in Manhattan; one exposed a T-shirt with the Gush Katif slogan and shouted, "Jews don't expel Jews!"

Several of those present booed the protesters and shouted profanities but the interruptions grew louder and the prime minister had to pause as the demonstrators - many also wearing orange T-shirts, the color adopted by disengagement opponents - were escorted out of the auditorium.

Also see Arutz 7 version.

3. Another blow to Israel's left

from al-Ha'aretz:

IDF to re-examine decision to collect Gaza settlers' weapons

The Israel Defense Forces has postponed collecting weapons from Gaza Strip settlers, and will re-examine at the last minute whether there is a need to do so at all, military sources told Haaretz.

Collecting the weapons at this point will cause the settlers to lose confidence in the army, the sources say.

In mid-April, after a meeting with senior officers, Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz ordered the army to begin collecting weapons from settlers ahead of the evacuation. Mofaz told IDF officers that the collection was to be coordinated with settler leaders.

4. Civil disobedience site - Hebrew only

From Arutz 7

Civil Disobedience Website

A Hebrew civil disobedience website has been launched to promote actions to oppose the Gaza/Shomron Disengagement Plan.

Suggested activities on the site include non-payment of taxes, returning one’s identity card, returning one’s IDF reserve duty service card and the closure of roads in protest against the plan.

The website was constructed by MK (National Union) Prof. Aryeh Eldad, who is a leading figure in the opposition to the expulsion plan.

How I wish that I could be there to help stop this travesty. If G-d is testing us, he has made it very difficult. In my heart, I still don't believe that the evacuation will happen. This last thing that Israel needs is a civil war.
