Avi Bieber - political prisoner

This article is dedicated to the Israeli Hero, Avi Bieber, who stood up to the Israel Destruction Forces (IDF). In a different age, Avi Bieber would have stood up to the British Mandatory government, another entity that claimed legitimacy in the face of facts. I salute Avi Bieber and hope that he serves as an example to us all.

Israel's "rushing to injustice" is reported by AP:

A U.S.-born Israeli soldier has been sentenced to 56 days in jail for refusing orders to take part in an operation to destroy empty buildings in the Gaza Strip before evacuation of the territory later this summer, the army spokesman said Tuesday.

The sentence was unusually harsh for a disciplinary hearing, and Israeli military officials said Cpl. Avi Bieber's case was meant to send a message to soldiers who have said they will refuse to follow orders to carry out the Gaza withdrawal.

Bieber, of Passaic, N.J., has become a hero among opponents of the government plan to evacuate all 21 Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip after he refused to take part in the demolition Sunday, when soldiers had to remove settlers who tried to interfere.

Israeli authorities fear hundreds of soldiers could disobey evacuation orders, seriously disrupting the pullout, set to begin in August...

The army did not want to hear Bieber's case in a military court out of concern it could be turned into a stage for opponents to the Gaza withdrawal, military officials said on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the matter.

In other words - Avi Bieber was denied due process.

Amplifying on this aspect of Avi Bieber's kangaroo court, Arutz 7 reports:

Sgt. Bieberīs Lawyer Claims He is Not Being Given the Opportunity to Offer a Defense

Shai Glili, the lawyer representing Sgt. Avi Bieber told Army Radio that he disagrees strongly with the decision to try Bieber before a commander and not before a military court, where he would be able to be defended by a lawyer. Bieber is being disciplined after yelling, "A Jew does not expel a Jew," during the army demolition of 11 buildings in the Jewish community of Shirat Hayam on Sunday.

"I received the investigation material from the IDF just now and he is being put on trial in half an hour. There was no opportunity to offer a defense and he is being led like a sheep to the slaughter, to be judged by a commanding officer who with all due respect is completely removed from anything connected to due process. This officer simply decides, based on how he sees fit, either to send him to prison or not."

On the popular support for Avi Bieber, Arutz 7 reports:

Haifa U. and Technion Students Come Out in Support of Corporal Avi Bieber

Students at Haifa's Technion and at the University of Haifa have released a statement in support of Corporal Avi Bieber, the IDF soldier and American immigrant who refused to carry out orders to destroy empty homes near the Jewish community of Shirat HaYam Sunday.

"We praise Avi Bieber's refusal to participate in crimes against the Jewish nation and to carry out blatantly illegal orders," the statement said.

Twelve of Bieber's fellow soldiers have informed their commander that they will not participate in any operations having to do with the Disengagement Plan.

Hooray for Avi Bierber. He has more courage than all of leftist Jews in my community. For all Jews in the US who disagree with the evacuation, please call your elected Senators and Representatives asking them to force President Bush to reverse his decision to giving in to Arab threats. Remember, his Grandfather was a Nazi ally.

As a fellow Jew and former resident of New Jersey, I applaud Avi Bieber's courageous stance. I am horrified at the brutality Jews are inflicting upon other Jews. I cannot understand how these people can commit such evil and look in the mirror each morning. And, then they condemn Avi for standing up for what is right?! As a current U.S. resident, I will write all the letters I can to my representatives in support of Avi Bieber. May justice prevail!

Ed and Heather, amen! I sincerely hope that Avi's courageous example will start a "landslide" of defiance. Already, 12 of his fellow soldiers have stated that they will not be "storm troopers" for Sharon's criminal activities, while hundreds more have already stated that they will not take up arms against the very people they've sworn to defend. Please visit www.vipac.org, if you need addresses and contact info for U.S. officials. I'm about to write George Bush, myself, to remind him that two more Israeli youths are dead, due to his and Sharon's conspiracy. May G-d "reward" these enemies of His people, and He shall!

Robert, getting Bush to relinquish his control over Dictator Sjaron would be like asking
King Saud to have a peace treaty with Israel. It ain't gonna happen. Today, hizbullah attacted and wounded some IDF soldiers and what did we do? We, the IDF dropped a few bombs in spots that did no damage. In my opinion, when someone hits me with a pebble, I'm gonna bash his head in with a boulder. Wake up Israel.
