False advertising

False advertising

Mediacrity does a fine job documenting the skewed, misleading reporting by MainStreamMedia[TM], and so do PMW, Honest Reporting, CAMERA, MEMRI and others. Yet, from time to time I can hardly refrain from highlighting egregious cases that come to my attention. One of these concerns AP's reporting about Abu Omri's Deportation Plot.

The AP headline shrieks:

"Jewish Settlers to Move Out of Gaza Homes"

Unless one reads the fine print, one may be tempted to believe that most families, if not all, are about to leave voluntarily; this would definitely call for renting of garments and donning sackcloth and ashes. And here are the actual details:

A group of 40 Jewish settler families said Saturday they expect to move out of their Gaza Strip homes next month, becoming the first to announce definite plans to leave ahead of the Israeli withdrawal from the coastal area.

The families from northern Gaza make up only a small fraction of the 1,600 families slated for evacuation this summer. But Saturday's announcement is the latest sign that Jewish settlers are coming to terms with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's decision to evacuate the Gaza Strip and four West Bank settlements.

For the sake of comparison, note that even JPost, mostly, the GOI's lackey, ran this honest headline:

38 families to leave Gaza in July
