MK Dahamshe accused of inciting attack
The Prisons Service on Monday accused Arab MK Abdul Malik Dahamshe of inciting to violence and of being partially responsible for the shooting attack near Hermesh in which 28-year-old Yvgeny Reider was killed.
The Islamic Jihad took responsibility for the attack claiming it was perpetrated as an act of revenge to the alleged desecration of three Korans two weeks ago by guards at Megiddo Prison in the north. At the time of the incident, Dahamshe harshly criticized the Prisons Service and accused the prison warden of trying to cover up the defilement.
Last week, a Prisons Service inquiry revealed that the prisoners themselves had cut out pages from the Korans which they said was desecrated by guards to use for a model they had built of the Dome of the Rock mosque.
"Dahamshe has blood on his hands," a Prisons Service official said Monday. "He wouldn't let go of the Koran case even after it was proven that the guards were innocent."
Internal Security Minister Gideon Ezra presented a letter Monday written by Palestinian inmates in Megiddo calling on Dahamshe to back down from his protest against the Prisons Service. Prisoners in Eshel Prison in the south also wrote a letter Monday calling on the Islamic Jihad to cease all attacks against Israel. In the letter, the prisoners also called on the Palestinian Authority to crack down on the various terror organizations.
For some inexplicable reason, whenever I read about MK Dahamshe, I think of Konrad Henlein, leader of the Sudeten Germans in 1938, whose photo is given above.
