Jerusalem Bus 19. A study in courage and disgust

I came across this article Jerusalem Bus 19 Comes to Berkeley on Frontpagemag.com. It is both fascinating, inspiring AND demoralizing, all at the same time.

I would advise you to read it in its entirety.

The inspiration comes from the determination of a woman, Sanne DeWitt, a Holocaust survivor, in her 80's, fellow volunteers, and the Christian Zionist group headed by Dr. James Hutchens that wanted to show the bus as a visible demonstration of what the Palestinian murderers were doing to Israelis. They faced off against the "usual suspects" who were just as determined to keep the bus from being exhibited.

What is frightening and depressing is how the city of Berkley fought against the pro-Israel forces. No suprise there, but this same kind of thing is going on in other campuses and college towns across the country not normally associated in our minds with the Far Left as Berkley, of course, has become.

Even more depressing was the response by Muslims who saw the exhibit, and the usual rabid anti-Israel demonstrators and how these groups are allowed to sow their hate seeds with impunity (and I am all for the First Amendment, but hey, when people advocate murder, that crosses a line for me), but most depressing was the response of the "organized Jewish community": because this was both a Christian Zionist group, and many Jews support the agenda of the Far Left (e.g. are actively anti-Israel or think that being loving to Hamas, the PA, Fatah etc. and giving everything back i.e. committing suicide, will make everything ok!), and heaven forbid, these pro-Israel groups MIGHT STIR UP THE WATERS, Jewish organizations sat idly by or actively opposed this display.

It is a sad article, and I would advise reading it in its entirety, but I would also note that the story of bravery of Ms. Dewitt is well-worth noting, as is the one of the Christians and Jews who braved the viciousness of the demonstators against Israel, and refused to quit fighting against all the obstacles placed in their way. Would that we all find the strength and courage to do the same in our communities.

It is an article I would advise everyone read. It might contain no suprises, but I think it's important to realize, just like those fighting disengagement, that every individual who stands up, every group that fights for what's right, potentially make a world of difference, and that by not giving up, these people make a difference in the world.

Again, here is the link to the article: Jerusalem Bus 19 comes to Berkley

As amazing as it is in Berkly, we have the same sickness in Prescott, Arizona. We have a nice size Jewish community, so you would think they would support Israel, but many do not.I have strongly opposed the evacuation of Gaza and Shomron and I have heard some of our neighbors say that the inhabitants in Gaza are right wing nut cases; however, whatever one believes, these are the people who keep the Jewish people together in marriage and in their religion. If not for these Orthodox citizens in Israel and the USA,most Jews would have intermarried and then what?

Sholom Maurice,

I, too, was not surprised about the Berkley reception for Bus # 19.

What did get my attention was that the # 19 wreckage had a planned itinerary to stop at the messanic synogogue in Newport News, Virginia. I could not envision a Vatican exhibit scheduled for a stop at an abortion clinic.

Something is going on under the surface and believe it relates to the "organized Jewish community".

I've got no problem with messanic synogogues - Virginia's "lady rabbis" cause more conversions from Judaism than the missionaries - but do have a problem with the "organized Jewish community". I see parallels to the origins of the Shoah.

Israel's PR programs might just be the barbarians' secret weapon against the Jews.

Kol tuv,
Bob
