'Orange Wave' Upsets Sharon, Bush and Police
Opposition to the government's evacuation plan has sent tremors in the establishment. Sharon has ordered police to clear the roads, the police fear loss of control, and Bush is losing support.
In a massive protest scheduled for Monday, thousands of motorists plan to stop their cars on the shoulders for 15 minutes without actually blocking the roads. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon demanded on Thursday that the police spare no efforts to keep roads clear of anti-evacuation protestors...
The inability of the police and courts to function smoothly was exposed last month when hundreds of youth were arrested for blocking roads. Imprisonment under harsh conditions only strengthened the will of the "orange crowd" and won sympathy from supporters after exposure of bias in the media and courts...
The opposition has united secular and urban Israelis with those living in Judea, Samaria and Gaza (Yesha). The ultra-orthodox Haredi community also is becoming more vocal in its opposition. Ribbons of orange, the color chosen to symbolize the
American support for Sharon and President George W. Bush also is beginning to crumble. Bush received only 25 percent of the Jewish vote in the presidential elections last year, but he won support from more than half of the orthodox community. Losing their support could cost the Republican Party serious financial and electoral losses in next year's mid-term elections.
"My community is very upset," said Bush backer Dr. Mandell Granchow, a former president of the Orthodox Union. "Bush is turning on Israel."
Susan Rosenbluth, editor of a pro-Yesha New Jersey Jewish newspaper, said many people are angry that they voted for Bush.

End to tense stand-off at Gush Katif hotel
Right wing activists holed up inside the Palm Beach Hotel in Gush Katif reached an agreement Saturday night with the IDF and the police, allowing the sides to back down from a tense weekend when activists flocked to the hotel and barricaded them inside, expecting security forces to evacuate them.
According to the agreement reached between the hotel's attorney Moti Mintzer, Gaza Division commander Brig.-Gen. Aviv Kochavi and Southern District Police Chief Cmdr. Uri Bar-Lev on Sunday, the police will hand over the list of the activists they wish to question, and the activists have promised to cooperate and appear for interrogation.
Last Saturday, residents of the hotel allegedly attacked a group of Palestinians. Since then, police have tried to summon and question the suspects, but they have refused to cooperate.
The situation reached its pinnacle Thursday night, when activists claimed that they had received reports from 'well-placed sources' saying that special police units were preparing to raid the seaside resort to arrest the suspects and possibly even evacuate the entire compound, which has been newly renovated by the anti-disengagement Kela Authority and re-named 'Maoz Hayam.'
On the other hand, the de facto PLO organ,
al-Ha'aretz reports that
Israel Defense Forces sources on Saturday vehemently denied reports claiming the IDF commanding officer in the Gaza Strip had promised to cancel plans to raid the hotel, which has come to be considered an extremist outpost, if the suspects agree to an interrogation.
The Jewish people have had enough experience to know that "when someone threatens to kill you - believe him". So, if I were one of the Hotel Resisters, I would take the IDF implied threat very seriously. And all the more so, because IDF stands for "Israel Deportation Forces".

Gush Dan Residents Complain of Damage & Ribbon Theft
Action Committee representatives in Kfar Saba and other Gush Dan areas reported earlier tonight that vehicles displaying orange Gush Katif solidarity ribbons were damaged over the Sabbath.
According to the report, the orange ribbons were removed and replaced with blue ribbon identifying with the left-wing Peace Now organization, which supports the expulsion plan.
A Yesha Council of Settlements statement to the press stated in many cases, vehicles’ antennas and side view mirrors were damaged, apparently by persons seeking to remove the orange ribbons.
Note: "Resistance News" is a daily column devoted to news about the Jewish resistance to Sharon's expulsion and resettlement plan. Let it not be said that IsraPundit observed the ethnic-cleansing of Jews.

The orange background symbolizes my personal solidarity with the Jewish pioneers of Yesha.
