I'm shocked, shocked I tell you...

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you...

Qassams murdering and wounding Israelis, both in Gaza and inside the Green Line. Hamas and the PA duking it out in the streets of Gaza (hundreds of spectators, according to news reports. More fun than the home run contest at the baseball All-Star game festivities here in the States!). Hesder yeshivah soldiers and others refusing to take part in the disengagement. Terrorist murder in Netanya by Islamic Jihad (and surely one of the "best" lines ever from the murderer, recorded before his act...he didn't want to harm the "truce"; the incipient bombing was just in retaliation against Israel for its acts against I. Jihad. But murdering a few women shopping at a mall, that's not anything to do with the truce... Chaos and mayhem. More murders, more fighting. Whoulda thunk it?

Who could foresee any of this? Who could believe that the Palestinians wouldn't embrace the chance at peace and their getting Gaza back Judenrien, for themselves? Who would believe they wouldn't jump at the chance to get back on their feet and start figuring out how to grow their economy, raise their children in a peaceful society?

It just boggles the imagination.

Of course, what really befuddles us is that Sharon and the Israelis of the Left and the "peace now" bunch would suspect for one millisecond that the Palestinians would "get it" and work to making anything other than a terror state (though it's interesting to consider the idea of a full-blown Palestinian civil war...though I don't see that lasting long...hatred of Israel will eventually reunite the "gang"!). Or maybe Sharon is smarter than all of us, and realized that the Palestinians would SHOW they couldn't handle even the remotest move towards conciliation with Israel, even for their own benefit. Nah.

I can't wait to read the latest Harry Potter sequel. It'll be more realistic than the idea that the disengagement will do anything other than bring further trials and tribulations to Israel. (Is Abbas the latest reincarnation of Valdemort, come back in new form; Arafat was obviously Valdemort's previous 'host', as I am sure any Potter fans might recognize!).
