Islamofascists Hit London, by Gary Bauer
The people of London were brutally attacked this morning as terrorist bombs hit the city's mass-transit system. At the time of this writing, the latest reports indicate nearly 40 are dead and over 700 wounded. An Islamist website with links to Al Qaeda took "credit" for the carnage. The statement said in part:
"In the name of God, the merciful, the compassionate, may peace be upon the cheerful one and undaunted fighter, Prophet Muhammad, God's peace be upon him.
Nation of Islam and Arab nation: Rejoice for it is time to take revenge against the British Zionist Crusader government in retaliation for the massacres Britain is committing in Iraq and Afghanistan. The heroic mujahideen have carried out a blessed raid in London. Britain is now burning with fear, terror and panic in its northern, southern, eastern and western quarters."
Prime Minister Tony Blair reacted strongly calling the attacks "barbaric" and promising, "We shall prevail and they shall not." President Bush also restated his resolve and asserted that hope and compassion will triumph over hate.
The encouragement is needed and is good. But, the reality is that there are no guarantees of victory. It is up to Western civilization to rediscover who we are and to find the courage to do what must be done to defeat the Islamofascists who have brought death and destruction to Jerusalem, New York, Washington, Madrid, Baghdad, Beslin, and today - London.
In 1938, Winston Churchill, in the House of Commons, spoke in the aftermath of the Munich agreement that many felt would prevent war with Germany through appeasement. Churchill knew war was inevitable. He said in part:
"And do not suppose that this is the end. This is only the beginning of the reckoning. This is only the first sip, the first foretaste of a bitter cup which will be proffered to us year by year unless by a supreme recovery of moral health and martial vigor, we arise again and take our stand for freedom as in the olden time."
Do we have the "moral health and martial vigor" today to do what must be done? God help us if we do not.
