Things are getting serious, folks. First, the World Council of Churches and the Presbyterian Church USA called for divestment from businesses doing business with Israel. Then the United Church of Christ joined them. Now I am witnessing a lock-step march of churches with the Anglicans rushing to join the parade of ignorant arrogance. The dominos are falling and the rise of anti-Semitism is well on its way. Where is Dietrich Bonhoeffer when I need him…the heroic German pastor who died in a concentration camp because he was brave enough to stand up against the Nazi genocide of Jews?
What are these 21st century Christians thinking? What are they reading? Are they consulting the God of the Bible?? The God who declared the Jewish people to be the “apple of His eye?” The God who said that Israel is HIS Land? The God Who deeded it to the Jews in an everlasting covenant? Are they reading their Bible or some translation they have made up? Or maybe they grabbed their theological scissors and cut out the many parts of the Bible which refer to the Jewish people, to the Land of Israel, to Jerusalem and now these denominations are passing around this incoherent, cut up, and erroneous version of scripture. Or maybe they are not even referring to their Bibles. Maybe their Bible is now the world media which vilifies and demonizes Israel and the Jewish people on a daily basis. Or maybe their Bible is possibly the Koran that calls for the murder of Jews and infidels ( that means the Presbyterians, the Anglicans, and the rest of us.) I wonder if these mainline church leaders realize they are on the Palestinian hit list since the Palestinians are Muslims, they are radical Muslims, Muslims read Korans, and the radical Muslims are terrorists? Hmmmmm.
In the past, I belonged to the Presbyterian Church. I belonged to the Anglican (Episcopal) church. I think from now on I better just belong to Jesus. He was, after all, a Jew.
