Take a Guess
A religious civil war is about to explode in Thailand. Without peeking at the answer, can you guess what radical religious group is involved:
The Islamic militants are trying to do some ethnic, and religious, cleansing in the Moslem south. The three southern provinces have a population of some 1.8 million, and only 360,000 of those are Buddhists (the religion of the majority of Thais, who are ethnically different from the Moslems, who are Malays). The terror campaign is having some success, as some ten percent of the southern Buddhists have left the south in the past six months. But many of the remaining Buddhists are arming and preparing to defend themselves, and stay in the south.
So you can now add Thailand to our list of countries where militant Islam is igniting ethnic bloodshed, civil unrest, and all out war. It joins Afghanistan, Bosnia, the Ivory Coast, Cyprus, East Timor, South Asia, Indonesia, the former Yugoslavia, Nigeria, the Philippines, Chechnya, Sudan, and of course Israel.

The BIG difference re Thailand is that the country mobilized to surpress the barbarians. Thailand just adopted their own version of America's "Patriot Act".
It was the Thai Prime Minister who was the first ASEAN leader to threaten to walk out of an ASIAN summit conference if certain matters were raised. The specific issue related to about 80 arrested Muslim terrorists being killed while in police custody. This specific issue was not raised. Believe Israel once had an event like this re an Egged bus seizure and some GSS officers who were convicted of crimes.
