The Bravest People I Know

The Bravest People I Know

The 7/7 bombings in London and now the Sharm al Sheik terrorism in Egypt have gripped the world media’s attention. The press lauds the Londoners for their true grit and predicts they will withstand the terrorism just as they bravely withstood Nazi bombs dropping on London. President Bush assures the Egyptians that the USA will stand “shoulder to shoulder” with them as they face terror on their soil. All these praises for England and Egypt are commendable but one nation and one people who have withstood, withstood, and withstood terror are consistently neglected. They are the Jewish people in the state of Israel.

If I turned on CNN tonight and heard a commentator praise the Jewish people for their enduring bravery in the face of the daily terror they have withstood for the last five years, I think I would faint. If I saw ABC news conduct a sympathetic interview with the family and friends of Dov and Rachel Kol who were just murdered by terrorists, I’d be glued to my TV set. If I read headlines that shouted, “Palestinian Terrorists Hit Israel With Kassam Rockets,” I’d be delightedly shocked. If any of you are reading or hearing media coverage like this, email me. I’d like to know that the world media are presenting the truth for a change concerning the Israeli’s war against terror.

It is instructive to note what we DON’T hear about Israel. We DON’T hear about over a thousand Israelis buried due to terror and the more than 5000 Israelis wounded for life by bombs armed with nails which penetrate their organs. We DON’T hear about a pregnant mother shot at close range along with her four young daughters. We DON’T hear about the spectacular innovations produced by Israelis that benefit all of humankind. We DON’T hear about the expert Israeli rescue teams which travel all over the world to lend aid in a disaster. We DON’T hear about Israeli doctors who treat Palestinians with skill and respect in Israeli hospitals.

The Jewish people are the bravest people I know. They rose up from the ashes of the Holocaust and created a modern bustling nation. They withstood four Arab instigated wars and won. Their scientists and computer whizzes sit in labs and offices creating future cures for cancer and Parkinson’s disease. Their orchestras play their gorgeous music at sunset while their indomitable spirit soars above the ancient walls of their capital Jerusalem. They bury their dead. They weep. They mourn. They wonder when the terror against them will end. They live each day in a national nightmare knowing the world hates them for simply being Jewish, yet they endure and they contribute to the welfare of the world in ways we cannot even imagine.

I wonder when the world media will be brave like the Jewish people. When will they be brave enough not to succumb to the hypnotic propaganda of terrorism? When will they rise up and tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth? I’m not sure that day is coming but I do know this; I will write the truth about Israel and my tiny light will shine in the darkness. Maybe if enough of us shine our small light where we are, we can light up the anti-Semitic darkness shrouding the world and shine a light on the bravest people I know.

So much has been written about the suicide bombings in Israel that almost all news about these events have been muted in everyone's mind. It is nothing new to hear about these events anymore in Israel, while in the West, the above described events are still major news. It is rare to hear about a bus bombing in London, or a suicide bombing in the London Tubes.

It should also be noted that hundreds of billions of dollars have been given to Israel under a myriad of reasons and causes and what is the end result? Land given away to terrorists and a make believe people, and Nazi like behaviour on the part of Governmental leaders. Israeli doctors are more concerned with helping and treating Palestinians than they are for their own people. With that attitude, what can you expect from world opinion?
