Sharansky: 'Israel Is a Battlefield'Trackback PingsTrackBack URL for this entry: Comments
With all due respect to Sharansky's lifetime record, he is wandering away from reality in his faith in "democracy". "Democracy" means rule by the people. Whether that comes out good or bad depends on the people. A corrupt society will chose a corrupt government. A violent society will choose a violent government. The idea that if people can freely choose their own governments they will always choose sweetness and light is naive and contrary to historic experience. Nor does democracy protect the rights of minorities or any of those who think differently from the majority. Benjamin Franklin once defined democracy as "Two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for dinner". With Sharansky, his program of making the PLO "democratic" and then giving it the historic heartland of the Jewish people for a state of its own is misguided and dangerous. This is so grievous a mistake that it casts doubt on his clarity of judgment. Posted by: A Time to Speak on August 22, 2005 11:43 PM

Mister Sharansky, you have been a hero of mine for many years and I like your phylosophy. If you were elected to be Prime Minister and we were attacked by terrorists, what would you do? If you would do what I think you would do, would you run for the position? Posted by: Ed D on August 23, 2005 01:20 AM Post a comment |
