AP:

Thousands of Jewish settlers and supporters defied a Tuesday deadline to leave Gaza, pelting Israeli troops with eggs and stones and dancing around the Torah in celebration of their resistance to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's historic plan to disengage from the Palestinians.

While a few of Gaza's 21 communities were deserted by midnight, settlers in other outposts hunkered down to await a dawn confrontation with Israeli forces prepared to forcibly evict them. Settler leaders shouted over bullhorns for protesters to go to bed and conserve their strength. Youngsters slept on the synagogue lawn...

One woman was overheard telling a soldier how her mother was forced to pack her bags and flee Nazi Germany. "Just remember that you are the evil one who is throwing me out of my house," the woman said, rebuffing the soldier's offer of help...

Hundreds of die-hard opponents continued trying to reach Gaza, trampling over Israeli crops near the border to circumvent army roadblocks. Police set up more roadblocks late Tuesday to stop them, and since Monday night had detained 830 people trying to either get into Gaza or block roads to stop settlers from leaving, according to Israel Radio.

Reuters:

A hard core of about 5,000 opponents of the withdrawal have slipped into Gaza settlements in the past few weeks in spite of a partial military closure of the area. Their presence has aroused fears that violence could erupt.

In Kfar Darom, a stronghold of the religious far-right, no settlers said they planned to leave. Shifting huge concrete blocks, they reinforced the synagogue as a possible redoubt.

Unarmed 16-member evacuation squads made up of soldiers, police and paramilitary police have been training for the operation for weeks, practicing scenarios that include violent resistance...

Continuing almost daily Palestinian celebrations, a rally organized by the militant Islamic group Hamas attracted about 4,000 people on Tuesday, including dozens of gunmen, in the town of Khan Younis, adjacent to heavily fortified Neve Dekalim.

JPost:

The army started to implement "mandatory evacuation without force" Tuesday night, OC Southern Command Maj.-Gen. Dan Harel said. Soldiers were ordered to sweep through Neveh Dekalim telling residents to immediately leave, even leading them by the hand, he told reporters.

Calling Neveh Dekalim a "hard nut to crack," Harel announced that residents who were not able to completely finish packing would be allowed to return to the Gaza Strip at a later date to fill their containers. "Whether or not the containers are packed is not a condition for evacuation," he said, meaning that everyone would have to leave regardless of whether they had finished packing.

Brig.-Gen Aviv Kochavi entered Neveh Dekalim late Tuesday night in an attempt to restore calm when his car was attacked and his wheels punctured. Scores of police were trying to form a barrier between him and angry settlers.

What follows is the quote of a soon to be deported Jew: "Farhan added bitterly that it was only the security forces, and no other government agency, who were ready for disengagement."

So, if Abu Omri was so convinced that his plan is best thing that Israel could possible do, then why didn't he make his case to the Israeli people and let them decide if they wanted to take this gamble with their future? Even the Yesha council said it would abide by the peoples' decision. But, no, one can't trust the commoner to be as wise as the king. This Israli government, called one of the most corrupt in the Western world, couldn't resist exercising its power by concentrating on ramming this deportation through and planning on how it would force those pesky Jews out of their homes before it even had plans to cram them into trailers and hotel rooms ready. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Sharon wants Jews to immigrate to Israel? I'd rather live in freedom.

For Germans especially those who are supporters of Israel and the Jewish People these times in Gaza are extremely painfull. We all have memories one way or another of Judaism being literally wiped away in Germany and in German occupied territories by the Nazis.

Sharon and his minions are the new Nazis. They have abandoned democracy and in its stead placed a dictatorship at the helm. Looking at the newsreels and seeing the faces of indifference of the soldiers entering the settlements, one can only imagine looking at the same UFA newsreels and substituting the SA and the SS for these young Jewish soldiers.

As I write, the Palestinians are now preparing a new round of violence. More Kassams will fall on Israel, and more Israelis will die. What will Mr. Sharon do then? Retreat more, appease more, say to the populace that this too will pass?

What will the Israeli People do? So far they have left their brothers and sisters die in the wilderness. What do you think will happen when the Palestinians want half of Jerusalem, or Tel Aviv? Should Israel appease them in order to make a peace? Should Peres build a casino adjacent to the Wailing Wall? You decide.
