Gaza first

Gaza first

President Bush in a press conference today was asked if we will now get back to the Roadmap. In effect he said "no". He said we must focus on the developement of good government in Gaza including the consolidation of security forces. JPost reported Bush: Palestinians must take next step

I got the feeling from his remarks that the creteria set out in his June '02 speech had been watered down. i.e. less democracy and less disarming of terrorists.

No mention of what Israel must do in the West Bank. His message and emphases was at odds with Rice's comments about further withdrawal in West Bank.

My comment to Omri above applies also to you. I think you were in support of the withdrawal from Gaza and you also lent weight to that acid issue which was not acid at all. And apparently the stormtroopers of Sharon can wade right in and uproot Jewish people and that is not a violent act.

The bottom line of all of this is that the US, Britain and Europe and a really reactionary section of the Jewish state around Sharon have succeeded in making Gaza Judenfrei.

As regards your comments about Bush, Bush like Eisenhower, Reagan and all the other American Presidents is an enemy of the Jewish state.

What is the solution? Well it must start by getting rid of Sharon and attention must be paid to exposing this man. Not by you or Omri because you in fact admire him. There are some fundamental differences here over Gaza. They will be intensified over the next period.

The best we can do is make a judgement call based on the facts we all share and based on what we consider the best interests of Israel. Time will tell.

Ted, you think that Bush may be a bit worried after he got lots and lots of e-mails and phone calls like mine, where I promise to vote Democratic for the first time in over a decade in the upcoming midterm elections just to punish the Republicans? I wasn't kidding, by the way.

The White House has an e-mail station set up, but is generally adverse to writing back. The initial decision by the current White House was not to have one at all. Rather, they would like to be around only those who agree with him.

If he said 'no' to resuming the Road Map, then why did he wait to say that until after he forced Israel out of Gaza?

(Just a clarification: of course this is a Mutt & Jeff routine. Bush hasn't changed direction at all. He just wants to muddy the waters for a while. I wanted to explain the timing of the rhetoric.)
