Yesterday Japan Surrenders. Today Jews Being Forced to... By Sharon Hughes

We are at war. More threats exist. Russia and China currently conducting joint military training. And as we've witnessed, Islamic terrorist plots know no limit to which countries will be attacked. Then there's the conflict in the Middle East, with the Jews being 'disengaged' (thrown out of) their homes and land today by their own government. Disgraceful!

Yesterday as V-J Day was being remembered, Israel commemorated Tisha B'Av, a day of mourning the many tragedies that have befallen the Jewish people. Today another tragic chapter is being written in their 'history book' as they begin to be deported from Gaza. (Did I mention that the Jews only own 7% of the land in Israel, and now even some of that is being taken away from them?).

Lest we forget the ultimate purpose of the disengagement in the minds of the Palestinian leaders, here is what Arafat's successor had to say:

"Today, our march to freedom begins. Tomorrow, it will be Jenin's turn and after that Jerusalem. From here, our people begin the march towards establishing an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital" -Mahmoud Abbas, Palestinian Leader on Israeli Gaza pullout.

When President Harry S. Truman announced in 1945 that Japan had surrendered unconditionally to the Allies [WWII] , thousands of people filled the streets throughout the United States to celebrate the victory over Japan, V-J Day. The official ratification of the surrender took place on September 2, in Tokyo Bay aboard the USS Missouri. 1,000 Japanese soldiers raided the Imperial Palace to find the proclamation and stop its being transmitted to the Allies, but were unsuccessful. That night, General Anami, member of the Japanese War Council most against surrender, committed suicide. Why? to atone for the Japanese army's defeat, and to avoid hearing the emperor speak the words of surrender.

Defeat will eventually be a reality for one side or the other in war. And while our generation (as other generations have in the past) sit at home debating (or protest in Crawford, TX) whether to go to war, stay in a war, or pull out of a war, let us not forget that the Japanese would not have surrendered, Afghanistan would not be liberated today and Saddam Hussein's regime would not have fallen, if America had pulled out ‘yesterday.’

Today, at least in the mind of this non-Jew friend of Israel, America is on the wrong side of the disengagement, the deportation, the pull-out of the Jews from their land in Gaza. It’s a 'forced surrender' that will neither result in peace nor satisfy those who want an end to any kind of state of Israel.

Karen, we love you and your comments about the evacuation. Israel must be free of terrorism not only for themselves, but also for the rest of the free world. Harry Truman, in 1948, voted to create a state of Israel as a state for the Jews. All other presidents since then has used threats to control what Israel must do to please our government. It's always about America's interest, not what's good for a country whose moral standards are above any other nation. If President Bush wanted to stop terror in the Middle East, he would have asked that the Arabs be moved out leaving only the Jordanian border for security and Jordan is an ally. If the U.N. wants to pour billions into the coffers of the Arabs, where it goes into the pockets of the politicians, who keep the poor people in refugee camps, then instead, let them build schools, industry, an infrastructure for a viable government and for other good deeds. Up to now, that money buys arms and explosives. Now Condi Rice and the State Dept. are making noise for Israel to concede more land. Actually, I guess that she is saying what Mr. Bush tells her to say. I have yet to hear the President to say anything about the evacuation exept that "it is a brave thing for Sharon to do". I met Mr. Bush while building his baseball stadium and I did vote for him; however, since the last election, he has lied about many issues. Being a Texan, I'm very disappoimted with him. I suppose that he is lining his pockets with Arabian oil money. In this past election, more Jewish citizens voted for him than for any other Republican canidate. He may have lost them. After getting all this off my shoulders, I know one thing and that is, we know where you stand.

Shift the blame that is what this is all about. Sadly, it is not disengagement which is tearing the soul from Israel it is being torn from the outside. But like the rest of the world which hates Israel now we have our friends who hate us as well.

.....and our real enemies (not just the palestinians) salivate and rub their hands together at the spectacle we are making of ourselves. The trap is not leaving Gaza. (horribly sad as it is) The trap is what we through misappropriated hate will hang ourselves with at the very glee of all who really despise Jews. To all those who are not Jews who think they must care for us and in turn call our leaders Nazi's and cowards, leave us alone. You are not our protectoretes. To the rest who hate us because we are Jews, we don't need you either.

New York – The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) has strongly criticized the Bush Administration for demanding that Israel not respond in any serious way to the murder of Israelis by Palestinian Arabs. The New York Times reported (8/7/05) that U.S. General William Ward, who is working on reforming Palestinian security services, “confirmed that American pressure helped stop the Israeli military two weeks ago, when it was poised to go into Gaza after a suicide bombing and rocket and mortar attacks that killed six Israeli civilians. Ward predicted that there would be similar discussions should the possibility arise again.”

ZOA President Morton A. Klein said, “This pressure by the Bush Administration to stop the Jewish state of Israel from appropriately responding to Palestinian Arab terror has repeatedly occurred throughout his administration. Only last week, Sec’y of State Condoleezza Rice demanded that Israel ‘exercise restraint’ in responding to the murder of Jews by Palestinians, while at the same time demanding that Israel transfer combat support equipment, weapons and ammunition to the Palestinian Authority. (Ma’ariv, 7/29/05)

“We also remember Sec’y of State Colin Powell’s condemnation of Israel’s response to Palestinian attacks on Israeli citizens as being ‘excessive and disproportionate.’ (4/14/01) Powell also said of Israeli killings of Hamas leaders ‘We have spoken out and condemned this targeted killing; this kind of response is too aggressive.’ (CNN - 8/1/01)

“We also will never forget President George Bush himself publicly criticizing Israel for killing the two Hamas terror leaders, Sheikh Yassin and Dr. Rantisi saying it was ‘unhelpful’. His spokesman Scott McClelland said Israel ‘should exercise restraint (3/22/04), and State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said, ‘we find the killing of Yassin not an act of self-defense...we find it deeply troubling.’” (3/22/04)

The Sunday New York Times article begins by saying, “The Bush Administration has increased pressure on the Israeli government...according to American, Israeli and international officials.” It continues by saying, “Israeli officials, who agreed to speak only on background because of the sensitivity of the topic, acknowledged the new pressure from Washington... Ms. Condoleezza Rice in particular has been forceful and even abrupt in her dealings with senior Israeli officials including the foreign and defense ministers, Silvan Shalom and Shaul Mofay. On her recent trip here, she treated meetings with them in their offices as her meetings, taking control of the agenda and even announcing when the meetings would end, the Israeli officials said.”

Two weeks ago, the Israeli Ha’aretz reported on her meeting with Israeli officials saying Rice was “full of demands on Israel, she ticked us all off...she twisted our aim and said we had to make all kinds of concessions to Mazen.” They added that Rice “ranted and raved” against Israel, but when it came to PLO Chief Abbas she “praised his leadership abilities and his war on terror.”

Klein added, “It is becoming more and more clear that Rice and President Bush are not fair to Israel in the U.S. approach to the Arab war against Israel. They seem to be on the side of Abbas and his terrorist regime. The U.S., in fact, should be on Israel’s side. Israel is their loyal, democratic peace-loving ally while the PA has shown themselves to be terrorist dictators, who don’t fight terror or end incitement against Israel.

“President Bush and Sec’y Rice should be aware that Americans support Israel and understand its difficult situation. A recent McLaughlin & Associates poll commissioned by ZOA showed that by a margin of 3 to 1, Americans believe that a Palestinian state’s goal will be the destruction of Israel – not peace with Israel. Americans also oppose U.S. aid to the Palestinians by 80% to 12%. And by a margin of 63% to 5%, Americans believe Jerusalem should remain under Israeli sovereignty.

“Especially during an era of international radical Islamic terror, President Bush and Sec’y Rice should not be demanding that Israel exercise restraint against Palestinian terror while complimenting the regime that allows or promotes terror.

“In borrowing a similar phrase Elie Wiesel used in front of President Reagan, I would like to say, ‘Mr. Bush, your place is with the victims of Islamic terror, the democratic State of Israel, not with the perpetrators and facilitators of terror, Abbas and the Palestinian Authority.’ Mr. Bush, stop appeasing the Palestinian Authority, stop pressuring Israel, and start pressuring the Palestinian Authority.”
