Abbas Passes on UN Trip

The United Nations General Assembly is meeting this week in New York City and reports indicate that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has chosen not to attend. The reasons he gave concerned the murder of his military advisor and the Israeli withdrawal. I suspect though there are hidden as well as obvious reasons and I have several theories about why Abbas is not in New York. Somewhere in Abbas’ terrorist mind, he may very well realize he cannot march into the United Nations in triumph.
With reports of chaos and anarchy in Gaza and competing terrorist organizations, Abbas must be worried that he will not maintain his hold on Gaza if he leaves. Hamas’ flag is flying everywhere in Gaza and a Hamas leader made certain he prayed in one of the abandoned Jewish synagogues. Secondly, Ariel Sharon will speak at the UN General Assembly. Sharon and Israel are expected to receive praises for the Disengagement, thus possibly upstaging Abbas.
Another hidden reason may be that Abbas wants to circumvent any direct pressure from the US or Great Britain to rein in terror. He may simply want to avoid confrontation which puts he and the Palestinians in a bad light. It’s nice to think that Abbas may even be embarrassed by the eruption of chaos and disorder in Gaza since the IDF withdrew. I like to think that Abbas cannot possibly be proud of the thugery occurring in Gaza especially with Palestinians robbing and tearing down the left-behind Jewish greenhouses that were set to provide the foundation of the Palestinian economy. The self-inflicted actions of the Palestinians are breathtaking in their stupidity.(A little aside here...I m sure the Palestinians will find a way to blame Israel for the Palestinian rampage that has ruined the greenhouses.)
What we are witnessing in Gaza is the principle of reaping and sowing. For years the Palestinian leaders have robbed their people of a solid birthright. They have filled them with hatred and a victim mentality. They have left them in poverty. The Palestinians and the entire Arab world should be ashamed of the way they have used the population as a tool to wield hatred against the Jewish state. Now Abbas is reaping a bitter crop of people gone amuck, looting, burning, taking over government offices, kidnapping people, over-running their border with Egypt and behaving with lawless abandon.
Yassar Arafat walked into the great hall of the United Nations in 1974 and received a standing ovation. The wolf in sheep’s clothing wore a gun at his side as he gave his speech. The world chose to overlook the gun but it was a visual symbol of the terror to come against the Jewish people, against Americans, and against the Palestinians themselves.
No wonder Abbas stayed home.

I see no "stupidity" in the PA allowed destruction of the greenhouses. The PA does not seek economic development. The PA owns a non-Mideast airline, a diamond industry and much more. The PA, Cairo's adjunct for deniability, just completed the initial step in planting a destabilization element next to Israel.
The rest is just the time factor.
