Why Israel's PR stinks...Trackback PingsTrackBack URL for this entry: Comments
This a horror story. Posted by: Ted Belman on September 29, 2005 11:52 AM
This material is, overall, false. "Israel" by truthful definition, cannot field a PR program. This is because of the constituent elements comprising the State of Israel. A good point to start at is Israel's War of Independence and the Motor Vessel Altalena. Israel is not a democracy. Israel is not Jewish - especially when learning that there are Arab MKs exercising legislative hostility toward Jewish causes. There is a reason the terrorist bombed bus frame was sent on a tour of the US with the itinerary having a stop at the Messanic Synogogue, Newport News, Virginia. A near-perfect example is given by Evelyn Gordon; the American Jewish Committee. At the time of its founding, there was a philosophical question perplexing America's Jews; can one be both a fully patriotic American citizen and concurrently, fully Jewish? AJC balanced this matter with the use of fraud. This became expressed in AJC's anti-Zionist positions, especially when led by Herr Proskauer. AJC used fraud although truthfulness would have worked also. Bernard Baruch rose to the heights of American society even though his father had been a Confederate Army Officer (Surgeon, CSA), a usual disqualifier even for Protestants. It was Rabbi Isaac Mayer Wise who honestly sought a definition of Judaism that was compatable with Americanism. Wise lost and to this day Arlington National Cemetery has a columbarium with niches for cremated remains - AND displaying a Star of David. Israel's priests and later its rabbis resolved much more difficult matters than AJC ever heard of. AJC neutralized the difficult equation by the sacrifice of Jews. This is not a first-time event in our history. The M/V Altalena murders relate to Rabbi Wise's efforts to hold rallies at Madison Square Garden against the Nazis. Israel was assembled like Yugoslavia, Indonesia and Malaya (when Singapore left the brothel it became MayAYSIA). We're now witnessing the AJC, Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Arab MKs finalize the Final Solution. Has anyone here not visited a burn trauma ward or a spinal injury ward or heard, in person, stories about the Shoah or terrorist attacks in Israel? Does anyonme here not think Mortimer Zuckerman's greenhouse business was not calculated and cunning to protect his amassed portfolio and public reputation acquired in the diaspora? Kol tuv,

Israel's Foreign Ministry never used professional PR people. They always used political hacks who can't even speak English or any other language needed by a member of the Foreign Mininstry. I have seen speakers who speak with an eight grade English tripping over their words in their ill prepared statements while the Arabs have speakers with a snake's tongue speaking perfect (or almost perfect) English. More recently their speakers not only lack the foreign language skills but they also lack loyalty to the State of Israel and the Land of Israel. Posted by: Uzi Kattan on September 29, 2005 03:51 PM
Maybe if more of you slicksters made aliyah, thereby qualifying you for a job at the MFA, we wouldn't have this problem. It's very easy to criticize from outside. Posted by: eotw on September 30, 2005 04:11 AM
I wholeheartedly agree with this. However, with not much help from the Israel Foreign Ministry, there are many "Hasbara" groups in the UK, some of which keep in touch by email, and also monitor what the other side is doing. We take great pride in countering lies and exposing the virulent untruths for what they are. We have taken on the BBC and newspapers, and never lose an opportunity to present Israel's case. We have a marvellous ally in the Israel Information Centre, based in Manchester, which is run by the Embassy but to me not enough financial resources are given. We also have the Trade Union Friends of Israel, which counters lies and anti-Semitic propaganda from the Unions in the UK. Posted by: Ilana Rosen on September 30, 2005 05:29 AM Post a comment |
Why Israel's PR stinks...
Time and again we have heard how bad Israel Hasbara / public relations efforts are. Many reasons have been given for this, among them being the poor English language skills of Israel's spokespeople, as well as the fact that Israel is a "democracy" and as such, we don't always speak in a single voice with a clear message...
While those reasons may be part of the problem, Evelyn Gordon, in her article, Making the Palestinian Argument, accurately assess the root cause of the problem for Israel's poor image in the world.
With friends like these...
