Israelis warm to security role for EU on Gaza's border with Egypt
A decision to invite the EU to help supervise the crossing would underline a shift of attitude by the Israeli government, which has traditionally viewed Brussels with suspicion. Some diplomats believe the Israelis now think that an EU involvement could demonstrate the scale of the security problems to sceptical European governments.
(Israel has washed its hands of Gaza and have attempted to get Egypt to take responsibility at least for the border crossing. While Egypt may be happy to facilitate Gazans to rearm and become a greater menace to Israel it realizes that it may be cutting its own throat in so doing. The same goes for the EU.
Only Israel has the means to defend itself from such threat. Egypt and the EU are stepping up to the plate in their own self interest. Sharon has succeeded in making Gaza an international problem rather then Israel's problem alone. Ted Belman)
