Against a place for hamas

Against a place for hamas

In a post last week, "Disregards the rest" I criticized a Washington Post editorial that called for allowing Hamas a political role in the Palestinian Authority. I had raised questions about a poll the editorial cited and friend and fellow blogger, Daled Amos found that poll and a second poll that showed the exact opposite of what the Post was trying argue. I suggested that we write a letter (or e-mail) to Fred Hiatt - the editorial page editor of the Post - noting the factual error: failing to acknowledge the second poll. Daled Amos also noted that if Hamas, a terrorist organization joins the PA, the United States would not be allowed to deal with the PA by law. He put together a very nice letter touching on arguments against the Post's position and emphasizing the two factual shortcomings of the editorial. It's up at his site Responding to WaPo's "A Vote For Hamas".

Daled Amos writes of "Mr Abbas's moderate, reformist movement". This is stretching it too much. I believe the Arab moderates are in the cemetery.

To hope that Palestinian public opinion would force the "militants" ie the barbarians, to adopt civilization, is like Chairman Mao suggesting that footbinding is very uncomfortable at first.

Amos is completely wrong. In a completely (physically safe) "democratic" election in Egypt, the barbarians will win the election. That's the main reason the Muslim Brotherhood is an illegal organization in Egyptian politics. The aforesaid example is ditto re Lebannon, Yesha, Morocco, Tunesia, etc.
