Alexander Downer: "Extremist Islam Holds Little Appeal"

An interesting interview with Alexander Downer, Australia’s minister for foreign affairs:

... Terrorism perpetrated by Muslim extremists continues to pose a grave threat to international security. It represents not only an attack on the West but also on moderate Islam and moderate Muslim countries. Groups such as Al-Qaeda and Jemaah Islamiya seek not only to corral all Muslims under tyrannical theocratic regimes but to use violence to subjugate societies everywhere. As a Western country with global interests that values peace, religious freedom, tolerance, and respect for the rule of law, Australia is a target. Jemaah Islamiya and Al-Qaeda—with their flexible and mutually supportive links with other extremist Muslim groups—will continue to seek to exploit communal conflict where it occurs in the region and may even be prepared to provoke such violence. As such, the threat of extremist Muslim terrorism affects the whole South East Asian region. ...

This was interesting. Alexander Downer is definitely world class representing Australia.

It was especially interesting how he addresses nuclear nonproliferation. When the International Atomic energy Agency's El Baradei proposed a 5 year freeze on nuclear fuel plant construction, the Aussies - even with no commercial nuclear plants - did not support this. I'm hoping Australia adds nuclear generation to its energy mix. This will close down the Arab thieves faster than the Arab-Arab infighting.

Ref Downer's "As such, the threat of extremist Muslim terrorism affects the whole Southeast Asian region.". This is hyperbole. Two areas in SE Asia are SR Vietnam and China's Hainan Province. Muslim terrorism has yet to hold more significance than common levels of crime in these areas.

The politico-military Islamic studies were already completed by Jefferson's Consul to Tunis William Eaton (Captain, US Army) and Lt Presley O'Bannon, USMC. They destroyed the Birbary Islamofascists 2 centuries prior to the Army's ad for another surplus professor.
