Those of us old enough to remember when Westerns, movies about cowboys and the calvary and Indians in the American West were in vogue. Inevitably, in each show, an Indian would say "Him speaks with forked tongue". Here we have Mr. Abbas speaking a bit disingenously:
Let's translate: "If only Israel were to give up its safety, bring down the security fence, open up its borders again to Palestinian laborers who showed their appreciation for work by bringing in suicide bombers into Israel, giving the so-called "right of return" to a few million Palestinians, giving back 100% of the West Bank and letting Jerusalem be the capitol of the terror...I mean, sovereign state of Palestine, letting the Golan back to Syria, and committing national suicide...heck, if only Israel were to do that, we'd have a deal in no time flat!"
He also refused..again...to take action against Hamas and other terrorist groups. Go figure. He runs one himself, so I agree with him, it would be hypocritical to force the other groups to lay down arms.
What's best about this story, of course, is that it comes on the heels of Condi's visit and her forcing Israel to again make concessions, in disregard of its safety, as has been noted. While she gives lip service to telling the PA it MUST disarm, Abbas gives her the Bronx cheer and tells the truth; the Palis will ignore her, as they have ignored every other treaty, entreaty and decency or common sense. (This is not news..but then, the Palestinians are not as worried about a state of their own as much as destroying the state of Israel.)
