Its a small world
Its a small world
My daughter made aliya around 1990, served in the IDF for three years then went off to Cambridge for a Masters in international relations.
While there she met an Italian (not Jewish)who was there for the same reason and intended to become a journalist. Afterwards she returned to Israel only to have her friend come later for a two year stint as a journalist on behalf of an Italian newspaper. They were good buddies and she did what she could to get him to abandon his communist roots and to love Israel.
On the other hand when she was in the army another friend who served at the same time and who went on to become a journalist with Haaretz, converted her from a rightwing daughter of mine to a Rabin accolade.
Today when we talked, she told me that her Cambridge buddy played a major role in organizing the pro-Israel rally in Rome. He was one of the ones who brought the left out in support.
What goes around comes around. Small world.
