Jews Speak Up for Christmas

Jews Speak Up for Christmas

by Sharon Hughes, Conservative Voice

Once divided, Jews and Christians are finding the walls between them coming down and a new unity, primarily for two reasons.

Number one because Christians, mostly conservative, seem to be the only ones standing with Israel these days. As recently demonstrated, those standing in solidarity with the Jews who were deported out of their homes and land in Gaza by their own government, were mostly American Jews and Christians. As my friend, Avi Lipkin says, "Jews are finding that Christians are their only friends."

Number two because of the mutually held concern over the violation of religious freedom that is increasing in America, Jews, again primarily conservative, are standing with Christians over the assault against Christmas and discrimination against Christianity as a whole, something they know alot about.

Rabbi Aryeh Spero, of Caucus for America and a guest on my show this week, talked about what's at stake in the battle over Christmas, and why Jews need to speak up for Christmas. His articles on the subject are worthy reads, such as
This Christmas Don't Let Them Turn Off the Lights ,
Once Upon a Time When American Had Christmas and
Our Battle for the Soul of America

Ted Belman, Editor of Israpundit is another Jew speaking up for Christmas.

Barry Farber's article Jews for Christmas had a surprising effect on me. He is so bold in his advocacy for "a vigorous movement of American Jews rising up to make sure nobody pushes around those Christians whose ancestors decided, for the first time in history, to make a unique wonderland like America, where nobody gets pushed around because of his God-loving ways," that it made me realize, on an emotional level, that not only has it become open season on Christians, but that we have been standing alone, until recently.

Farber went on to write, "Never in history, not until America, did a people overwhelmingly of one religion ever conquer a continent and then turn around and invite the world to “Come on over and help us make this place great!” And while they were at it, they made sure every newcomer was free to worship God in his chosen way. If the emcee at a brotherhood banquet said that and then said, 'Let’s hear it for those Christians who started this particular America!' would you fail to applaud?" That's a powerful question.

In a growing supposedly 'tolerance-led' society, people are concerned about offending everyone from homosexuals to illegal aliens as you know, but how many are concerned about offending Christians? What are we, chopped liver?

Happily not to a growing number of Jews, such as Don Feder, President of Jews Against Anti-Christian Defamation , which was organized earlier this year because, as Don Feder said, "We understand that Christians are the last remaining obstacle to the moral deconstruction of America. Christians are under assault because of the values they embrace. But the morality of Christianity is also the morality of Judaism. By maintaining their loyalty to the eternal values revealed at Sinai, Christians have become pariahs in the eyes of the establishment but heroes in our eyes." Heroes? Wow. It's been a long time since I've heard or read something like that.

Christmas for Christians is a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, "who has broken down every wall" so that peace on earth and goodwill to all men may become a reality. Now, what can be so offensive about that?

These people would do well to speak out against countries where Christians are actually being persecuted and oppressed in the muslim world. Christians in America are doing just fine.

http://www.omdurman.org/crucify.html for how Christians are treated by Islamofascists. Make no mistake: Jews, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, and decent Muslims have to be on the same side in this war. On the other hand, it is quite likely that Islamofascist fifth columnists and stooges are trying to undermine the United States' Judeo-Christian foundations. They have definitely infiltrated the Presbyterian Church USA and probably the Unitarian Universalist Church, as shown by these organizations' hosting of Fatah terrorist Ayed Morrar in October and November. PCUSA has also consorted with Hezbollah terrorists.

I don't agree with evangelist Jack Chick's theology but he is on to something when he says that Jesus has been taken out of many American churches. Even if one recognizes Jesus only as a teacher and philosopher as opposed to the son of God, it should be quite obvious that churches that go against his teachings are not Christian. PCUSA is definitely in that category, having consorted with terrorists and persecutors of Christians.

There is, however, a real conflict going on here. The FOX presenters and leaders of the Religious Right are happy to welcome the support of Don Feder and his politically conservative group of Jewish journalists.

The targets of this campaign are liberal Jews, committed to the separation of church and state as the longstanding protection of Jews in America. The specific targets are Abe Foxman of the Anti-Discrimination League and Rabbi Eric Yoffie, president of the Union for Reform Judaism. The aim is to silence critics of the theocratic aspirations of the Religious Right, by holding over their heads the threat of withdrawing support from Israel.

What is the subtext in the constant TV reports is explicit in discussions on Christian radio stations. John Gibson of FOX News, the author of a much trumpeted book on "The War on Christmas", made it clear that the enemy was people following "the wrong religion" when he was interviewed on Janet Parshall's nationally syndicated show.

GIBSON: Minorities ought to have the same sense of tolerance about the majority religion -- Christianity -- that they've been granted about their religions over the years....... I would think if somebody is going to be -- have to answer for following the wrong religion, they're not going to have to answer to me. We know who they're going to have to answer to...... But in the meantime, as long as they're civil and behave, we tolerate the presence of other religions around us without causing trouble, and I think most Americans are fine with that tradition.

The interview starts about 27 minutes into the audio file of Thursday November 17, 2005 -- Hour 2 (misidentified as being about pornography).

Don Wildmon, of the powerful American Family Association, said this week on his radio show, broadcast on his 200 radio stations,

------ You know, he's got himself kind of in a bind, because the strongest supporters Israel has are members of the religious right, the people he's fighting. He's got himself in a bind here. Because the more he says that "you people are destroying this country," you know, some people are going to begin to get fed up with this and say, "Well, all right then. If that's the way you feel, then we just won't support Israel anymore."

Given that the Religious Right opposes all moves towards peace in the Middle East, because it looks forward to the total extermination of all unconverted Jews at Armageddon, it is not clear that the price is worth paying.

Omein and Omein, my friend!

David, I may be further to the right than many of my Christian brethren, as I consider Channukah a more valid December holiday than the "Christ-mass", with all of the pagan customs (even the timing) it holds, but I assure you that I am not opposed to peace in the Middle East. To be realistic, however, how can Yisrael make "peace" with a "peace partner" that is pledged to her total destruction? Mr. Bush's Roadmap to hell is doomed from the get-go, as genuine peace is the farthest thing from the minds of Abu Mazen, et al. As for your Armegeddon issue, there may be a few wayward (or evil) souls out there, with such thoughts, but they will be sorely disappointed, when the dust settles and the final chips are counted, as my Bible says, "All Yisrael shall be saved!" I can only apologize for the loony anti-semites who would differ, as they are not of my camp or my control.
